The following students are eligible to apply to the Upward Bound I program:
- Students in 8th, 9th, or 10 grade in participating school districts.
- Potential first-generation college students (neither parent has a four-year college degree) or students whose families meet income guidelines as defined by the federal government.
The following schools participate in Upward Bound I at Mineral Area College:
- Bismarck R-V
- Central R-III
- Farmington R-VII
- North St. Francois County R-I
- West St. Francois County R-IV
