Course Name:  ACT English Prep

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce students to the structure of the ACT English test, focusing on the importance and significance of test preparation and developing the capacity to master the test.  Students will participate in pre-tests to gauge knowledge and identify strengths and weaknesses, and will be guided toward improving weak areas and further strengthening strong areas.  Main emphasis will be placed on effective test-taking strategies including pacing, process of elimination techniques, and methods for handling a full array of ACT English questions.  Post-tests will provide the students with a way to measure improvement over the span of the course.

Course Objectives

The major objective of this course is to increase student knowledge and awareness of tested concepts on the ACT English exam.  These include successful test-taking strategies that focus on format and content of the test, general strategies needed to tackle the test, rhetorical skills, rules of grammar and punctuation, and the most common traps associated with the test. 

Expectations of Students:

·         Attend and actively participate in all classes

·         Complete daily assignments

·         Participate in pre-, post-, and formative assessments

·         Complete homework assignments

Student Evaluation

Assessment and evaluation will be based upon class participation, formative assessments, quizzes, homework grades, and ACT pre- and post- tests.
