November 23 - November 29, 2009           

The Thanksgiving Holiday Break begins at 4 pm on Wednesday, November 25th.  There will be no evening classes on the 25th, no classes on the 26th & 27th, and no Saturday classes on the 28th.    Offices will also be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

The Annual Turkey Bowl, sponsored by the Recruitment/Retention Committee, will be held on Monday, November 23rd at 10 am in the Quad.  This is a fun event, and everyone is welcome.  Come on out and try your luck at “turkey bowling”!

Spring and Summer 2010 schedules are available in print, and on the web.  Open registration begins Monday, November 16th and will continue thru January 10th.  Students are encouraged to make an appointment with their advisor for class selections and degree requirements.

The Exit Exam will be held on Monday, November 23rd at 9 am, 1 pm & 4 pm, and Tuesday, November 24th at 9 am & 1 pm – all in AS101.

The Student Government Association is once again partnering with the St. Francois Community Partnership to help provide Christmas gifts to area children.  A gift-giving Christmas tree stands in the Concourse Area.  Please choose a tag (which contains all the information for the gift) and return to the collection box provided by noon on December 3rd.    Gifts may also be taken to Debbi Lee’s office is AS103.

OPEN HOUSE!  Please join the Library Staff at the open house for the new Library Lounge on Wednesday, November 25th at 10 am.  If you’re looking for a great cup of coffee, here’s your place on campus to get it.  In addition, our own Terri Crocker will be singing!  FREE cookies and coffee will be servedBring a can of food for the Elvins Food Pantry and receive a Souvenir Coffee Mug, while supplies last.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Always wanted to go to Italy?  Well, here’s your chance.  The MAC Spring Tour 2010 will leave on May 29th and return June 6th.  Tour Italy’s great cities of Rome, Florence, & Venice.  There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, December 1st at 6:30 pm in AS109.  Contact Jerry Walters for more information at jerry@mineralarea.edu.

Phi Beta Lambda will be selling raffle tickets on a Thanksgiving/Holiday Basket thru November 25th at various times in the Concourse Area.  Proceeds will be donated to Caring Communities.

The RAD-I.T. Club is collecting non-perishable food items to be given to a needy family for Thanksgiving.  Collection boxes are placed in various areas on campus. 

Omega Leo has adopted “A Friend’s Place” (formerly The New Way Shelter) as a year-long service project.  They are collecting items to donate to the shelter such as books, games, magazines, personal care items, baby items including formula, women’s socks/sweat pants/tops/t-shirts, trash bags – almost anything you might have in your closets/pantries at home  They will also take cash/check donations.  You may drop off your contributions in the Dean of Students Office (AS100).  A complete list of items needed is posted on the Omega Leo bulletin board.

Mark your calendar for the Mineral Area College Christmas Celebration, sponsored by the MAC Classified Staff!  A variety of musical entertainment provided by the Jazz Band, the Marvels, and the MAC Choir will get you in the Christmas spirit on Tuesday, December 1st from 5 to 7 pm in the Concourse Area.  Bring the kids – Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance!  The “Barbie Toy Drive” will be given to Season of Hope!  FREE REFRESHMENTS!

FLU NEWS – Thee is now a toll-free number to provide H1N1 flu & vaccine info to MO residents.  Call 1-877-FLU-4141 for info – from symptoms & basic medical advice to the availability of the new vaccine.  The toll-free number will be answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
