CAREER PATHWAYS GUIDANCE MODEL

The Southeast Missouri Regional Tech Prep Consortium strongly encourages the elimination of the “general track” curriculum and the implementation of the Career Pathways guidance model. The Consortium endorses a system incorporating the following Pathways:

Arts and Communications
Business, Management and Technology
Health Services
Human Services
Industrial and Engineering Technology
Natural Resources/Agriculture

The Career Pathways guidance model includes the selection of one of the six broad Pathways by each incoming ninth or tenth grade student and the development of a high school course of study involving a planned sequence of courses designed to assist the student in attaining his/her educational/occupational goals. The Pathway and the course of study are both tentative and may change as the student learns more about personal interests and strengths. The Pathway and course of study are constant, however, in that they serve to give FOCUS and DIRECTION to the student and the student’s endeavors.

The Career Pathways system seeks to serve all students, regardless of individual plans regarding school-college exit points or occupational objectives, and is an important part of the changing culture found in progressive, student oriented high schools. Career Pathways are a part of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Model Guidance Program.
