TRANSFER GUIDE

I. General Education Requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree:

v              English Composition I (You may have to take Basic Writing first)

v              English Composition II

v              Public Speaking

v              5 hour Lab. Science

v              3 to 5 hours additional science (Note: One science must be a biological science and one must be a physical science.)

v             9 hours of humanities (Selected from at least two different areas)
 (Three hours must be selected from a foreign language, World Drama, Multi-Cultural Literature, Latin American History, Modern Latin America, Literary Masterpieces, World Civilization, Western Civilization, Comparative Religion, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Art History, Intro. to Cinema, or Ethnicity and Cultural Difference in America.)
 (The remaining six hours should be selected from the above classes or from the following areas:
 

Ø       Appreciation of Music, Introduction to Music, Appreciation of Jazz, or Music Theory

Ø       Introduction to Humanities

Ø       Ethics (strongly recommended)

Ø       History of Christianity

Ø       Introduction to Threatre

Ø       Any Literature Course

Ø       Introduction to Philosophy 

v              American National Government (You may take American History I.)

v              American History II (You may take State &Local Government.)

v              General Psychology I (You may take any behavioral social science, but psychology is strongly recommended.)

v              College Algebra

Ø                   You may have to take Elementary and Intermediate Algebra first

Ø                   Most B.S. programs require finite math and/or calculus.
(We offer a business calculus course)

v              Computer Course (Students planning to take the CPA exam should take a course in spreadsheets.)

v              Two P.E. activity courses

(Total credit hours for the AA degree must equal 60 hours plus the two P.E. courses.
 Intermediate Algebra does count towards this 60 hours but may not count towards the hours for your four-year degree. Only six hours of vocational courses count towards the 60 hours for the AA degree)

II. Business Courses:

(CMU - Central Methodist University, SEMO - Southeast Missouri State University,
 MSU -  Missouri State University, UMC - University of Missouri at Columbia, and
 UMSL - University of Missouri at St. Louis)

v              Principles of Accounting I (Prerequisite of one year of high school accounting or
 Applied Accounting I)

v              Principles of Accounting II (Prerequisite of Principles of Accounting I with a C
 or better or  Applied Accounting I and II with C's or better)

v              (Note: It is recommended that both accounting classes be taken at the same institution)

v              Principles of Macroeconomics

v              Principles of Microeconomics

v              Legal Environment of Business (Not for CMU)

v              Introductory Statistics (Not for UMSL or UMC)

v              Marketing (For CMU only)

v            Business Communications (For SEMO and MSU only)

III. Other General Education Requirements

UMSL

v              Cultural Anthropology 

v              Business Calculus          

v             Introduction to Computers as your computer class. UMSL does not
 transfer Micro Applications

v              American National Government and American History I or II

v             Ethics for accounting majors

MSU

v              General Psychology I is required

v              6 hours of a single foreign language or six hours selected from Regional World
 Geography, Comparative Religion, International Relations, General
 Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, or Comparative Government

SEMO

v              Business Calculus

v              SEMO strongly recommends Micro Applications before transferring

UMC

v              Business Calculus

v              Accounting majors must take 6 hours of psychology or 6 hours of sociology.

v              Accounting majors must take Introduction to Philosophy or Ethics as one of their humanities.
