Each Spring the Science Department hosts the WYSE Academic Challenge for this area. The Academic Challenge is a set of competitive tests prepared by the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering ( WYSE ) organization. This competition has been operating in Illinois since 1975, and this will be the 17th year that MAC hosts a regional competition.  The 2017 Regional Competition will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 on the Mineral Area College Campus.

If you are interested in participating this year, in please send a list of your student participants and the two tests each plans to take to Dr. Saum in early January so that we have time to get their names entered into the scoring program.  You will need at least 2 students each for the English, Math, and Chemistry tests, and then at least two students in two other subjects.   Beyond that, students can take whatever is of greatest interest to them.  You can have up to 14 students on a team, and up to 6 additional "at large "participants.

Thanks for your interest, and we look forward to seeing all of you, and your students, in early February.

The subject areas are:
BIOLOGY
CHEMISTRY
COMPUTER SCIENCE
ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
ENGLISH
MATH
PHYSICS
