Jeremy Partney

Wellness Center Director and Physical Education Department Chair

Jeremy Partney just completed his 9th year as the Wellness Center Director at Mineral Area College.  He was named Department Chair of the Physical Education Department in the Fall of 2011. Jeremy started working at MAC in January of 2004 as an assistant baseball coach and as an assistant in the Learning Center.  He transferred to the Wellness Center in 2006 to become Assistant Director.  He worked in this position until the Fall of 2009, when he was promoted to the position of Director.  In Jeremy's 9 years as Director, the Wellness Center has seen many improvements.  The center has updated equipment, added group classes, and improved the overall quality of instruction for the students.  Under Jeremy's leadership, the Wellness Center has started Zumba, Core Conditioning, Boot Camp, Women's Self Defense, Mixed Martial Arts, Beginning Fitness, Strength Training, Foundations of Fitness, Pilates/Core, Tai Chi, Cardio Pump, and 20-Minute Fat-Burn.  The Wellness Center works with some of the communities fitness centers to reward students with temporary memberships for their success in the class.  The focus of the center has changed to helping the student achieve their goals on a more personal level, as well as helping students meet the requirements for their degree from Mineral Area.

The Wellness Center staff has made a concerted effort to get college employees more involved in good health and fitness.  This year many of MAC's employees have participated in the Wellness Center's group fitness classes and have achieved good results.  MAC now has an on-campus 5K as well as a running group that meets every spring.  Anybody who works at the college has a free membership to the Wellness Center and any student who is currently enrolled at the college can use the Wellness Center for free.  The staff has also volunteered to personally train any full-time employee at the college as well as set up a nutrition plan for them.

The Physical Education Department has also improved under his guidance.  Mineral Area has added many Dance classes including Dance I and II, Jazz I and II, Hip Hop I, a Psychology of Coaching class, as well as a Sports and Society class.

In the Spring of 2013 the department added Fit For Life.  Fit For Life is an online class where students can earn their physical education activity credits.   Fit For Life has been one of the most popular classes at the college.  Partney works in the athletic department where he handles the athletic website.  He is also Vice-Chair of the Curriculum Committee.

Jeremy graduated from Mineral Area College with an A.A. degree where he was a member of the baseball team and Phi Theta Kappa. Then, he continued his baseball career and earned his Physical Education degree from The University of Missouri-St. Louis.  He has a Master's Degree in Counseling from Central Methodist University.
