Mineral Area College's Nursing program offers a choice of one-year Licensed Practical Nursing or two-year Registered Nursing. Students may apply for acceptance into either or both programs. Students who choose to continue can bridge into the RN program.
Pre-requisites must be met prior to being accepted into this selective nursing program. Additional information including cost lists and applications, visit the Allied Health Department.

Entrance Requirements for the ADN Program
- Be a graduate of an approved high school or the equivalent as determined by appropriate accrediting agencies.
- Applicants are required to have basic computer knowledge as evidenced by:
- A high school computer course with approved course substitution form.
- A college computer course, or
- Pass the CIS test-out exam given by Mineral Area College.
- Prerequisite courses: Must be completed
by the end of the Fall Semester and in the following order:*
- Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, OR College Algebra with a grade of C or above.
- Followed by Introductory Chemistry (5 cr. hr.) with a grade of C or above.
- Equivalent high school courses may be substituted if completed in the past 5 years with a grade of C or above: (substituted does not mean college credit is granted. These courses for college credit will be required for a baccalaureate degree.)
- Chemistry
- Algebra I and Algebra II
- American College Test (ACT) or ACT Compass
- ACT -Applicants must have taken the ACT within the past
3 years, be scheduled to take the test on or before the
December test date, and have the following minimum scores:
- English - 22
- Math - 21
- Composite - 21
*Scores are adjusted for classroom competence.
- ACT Compass - Applicants must have taken the ACT Compass within the past 3 years and have the following minimum scores:
- Writing - 89
- Algebra - 49
- Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above. The GPA is based on degree credit only.
- Evidence the personal qualification necessary for a nursing career as determined by Mineral Area College.
- Applications will be accepted from Feb. 1st until Dec. 15 of each school year. Application deadline may be extended.
- The following credentials must be on file in the Allied Health
Department prior to Selection. It is the student's responsibility
to assure these documents are on file. There is a $20 application
fee.

- High school transcript or GED scores (official, not hand-carried)
- ACT scores or COMPASS scores
- College or University transcripts (official, not hand-carried)
- List complete names & addresses for references on application.
- A college form letter will be sent to those listed.
- Handwritten autobiography (3-5 pages)
- All applicants who have been accepted into the program are considered on conditional status pending completion of the physical examination by a qualified physician, stating they are free of emotional, physical, infectious, and/or contagious disease, passing the drug screen, passing the background check, and successfully completing all pre-requisite courses.
- Persons who do not meet the above requirements should contact the Chairperson of the Allied Health Department or the Vocational counselor.
- No classes may be added after the first three days of fall & spring classes without permission of the dean.
- A personal interview may be required.
Acceptance of High School students will be considered conditional until a final High School transcript is submitted. Selection is based on 7 semesters of High School credit.
