(9/2/10) Cardinals makes statement with road win over West Plains. The women's volleyball team got their biggest win in recent memory, by going on the road to defeat NJCAA #2 ranked and defending Region XVI Champions West Plains last night. In front of a big crowd, the Lady Cards rebounded from a first game loss to sweep the next three games (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) on their way to improving to 3-0 overall for the season.
This was the home opener for the Grizzlies who finished 2nd in the nation last year and have won the Region XVI Title 11 consecutive times and have also made it to the NJCAA National Tournament 11 years in a row. This is the first time in school history that MAC has defeated West Plains.
The Lady Cards got big contributions from their three European players. Three Cardinal hitter's were were over 30 percent at the net with Anna Laitinen (Finland) recording 11 kills, and Katarina Sretenovic (Serbia) recording 10 more.
Marija Jovanovic (Serbia) and Laitinen made 14 digs each on defense, and Kelly Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, IL) led in blocks with four.
The Lady Cards will try to keep the momentum going when they travel to the Lincoln Land Tournament in Springfield, Illinois this weekend.

(8/27/10) Cardinals open up on Monday in Tri-Match at home.
The women's volleyball season will officially get under way on Monday in a Tri-Match with McKendree JV and Missouri Baptist JV. The first game will start at 5:00 P.M. and the second game will be at 6:30 at the Bob Sechrest Field House.
The Cardinals have brought in an excellent recruiting class and have high hopes for the season. MAC had a very good season last year, going 27-9.
(8/23/10) Meet the Cardinals at Engler Park scheduled for September 9th.
Mineral Area College is inviting the community to come out and spend a few minutes meeting the athletes of all of our fine sports teams for the upcoming year. Bring the kids out to meet the 2010-2011 Cardinals on Thursday evening, September 9, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Knight Pavilion in Engler Park, Farmington. Coaches and athletes from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s baseball, women’s softball, men’s golf, women’s volleyball, and the MAC Cheerleaders will be on hand. The Coaches will be grilling up hotdogs and serving soft drinks while the athletes will host a variety of activities and games for the kids to play.
(8/18/10) Women's volleyball team scrimmages alumni on Saturday. The Women's volleyball team is getting ready to start their season. They will play against the Alumni, Saturday at the Bob Sechrest Field House starting at 6:30 P.M. Their first official game will take place on Monday, August 30th in a Tri-Match with McKendree JV and Missouri Baptist at home 5:00 and 6:30 on the MAC Campus.
(4/21/10) Mineral Area College release 2010 Cardinals Volleyball Camp Information and dates. The MAC Cardinals Volleyball Coaching staff will conduct an Individual Instructional Camp (June 7th-10th), a hitters and setters instructional clinic (June 14th), a one-day tournament-style Team Camp with JV & Varsity divisions (July 24th), a Monday night Summer League (6 weeks) for Varsity and JV teams starting on June 7th, and a Tuesday night (6 weeks) Jr. High Summer League starting on June 8th. (3/31/10) Cardinals sign Bailey Layman from Liberty High School. Head Coach Tim Copeland has announced the signing of Bailey Layman a 5'9" outside hitter from Liberty, Missouri. Layman was a standout her Senior year having 201 kills, 36 aces, and 111 digs. She was a member of the first team-All MVHCA District team.
(2/17/10) Mineral Area Head Coach Tim Copeland announces the signing of four players for 2010. The Mineral Area Volleyball team has had a tremendous recruiting effort so far for next season. They have signed the following players:
Abbie Warren from Dexter High School a 6'0'' middle/right side hitter has signed to play for the Cardinals in 2010. Abbie was an All-Conference and All-Region selection for the Southeast Missouri school.
Meghan Dohogne a 5' 10" outside hitter helped lead Cape Notre Dame High School to the Final Four this year. She was a 1st-Team Class 3A All-State player for the Bulldogs.
Dohogne recorded 288 kills and 118 blocks as a junior and followed that with 293 kills and 87 blocks as a Senior . She also lead the team with 41 service aces and 275 digs.

Julianne Ramsey from Triad High School in Troy, Illinois will play for MAC in 2010. She is a 6'1" middle hitter who was a First Team All-Mississippi Conference player for Triad.
Brooke Williams a 5'6" setter from Eminence, Missouri has signed a letter of intent to play for Mineral Area next season. Brooke was a 1st Team All-State player for the Redwings.
(1/26/10) Davault and Motley committ to Williams Baptist. Two local standouts have decided to continue their volleyball careers at Williams Baptist College. Haley Motley from Bonne Terre, (North County HS) and Kelsey Davault from Farmington, (Farmington HS) will play next year at the NAIA school in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Motley and Davault have been two mainstays on the Cardinal's Volleyball team with Davault earning MCCAC All-Conference honors this year as a Sophomore. Williams Baptist was 26-14 last season and is assisted by Joaby Sikes, a former All-Conference baseball player at Mineral Area.

(10/29/09) Mineral Area earns # 3 seed in Region XVI Tournament The Mineral Area Cardinals are the #3 seed in the 2009 NJCAA Region XVI Division 1 Tournament. Mineral Area (27-8) will play #2 Jefferson College (19-9) at 7:00pm on Friday November 6th at Missouri State University-West Plains. The winner will play in the Region XVI title match against #1 West Plains on Saturday November 7th at 2:00pm. The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa which takes place November 19th through 21st.

(10/26/09) Volleyball regular season comes to an end this week. The Mineral Area Volleyball team will play their last regular season contest of the season on Wednesday when they take on Lewis and Clark at Jefferson College. The Cardinals are 26-8 on the season after defeating Shawnee Community College in 3 sets and Kaskaskia in 4 on Saturday.
(10/22/09) Cardinals grab road win in 5 sets over East Central. Mineral Area grabbed a MCCAC Conference win last night on the road in Union, MO. The Cardinals run their win streak to 5. This marks the third, 5-game win streak the Lady Cards have had this season. MAC got off to a fast start last night winning the first two sets handily (25-11, 25-11), but East Central fought back (26-24, 25-19) to force a 5th and final set which the Cardinals won (15-12), to take the match over the Falcons of East Central who are now 22-10 on the season.
The Cardinals (24-7) take on #8 ranked West Plains (19-8)at 6:30 tonight as the opening of the annual Midnite Madness Events.
(10/18/09) The MAC Lady Cards win the American Family Insurance Cardinal Classic. The Mineral Area College Volleyball Team went 4-0 with conesecutive wins over Shawnee, NW Shoals, Kaskaskia and John Woods to capture the American Family Insurance Cardinal Classic Title. The Lady Cards (23-7) have two tournament titles under their belt this season after winning the Northwest Shoals Patriot Classic earlier this month.
The Cardinals opened up the tournament on Friday by defeating Shawnee CC (24-5, ranked #20 in D-2) in 3 straight sets,(25-22, 25-20, 25-20). Later that night MAC defeated Northwest Shoals, (25-22, 25-11, 25-10). Then, on Saturday, the Cardinals had two dominant wins to win the title. They defeated both Kaskaskia
(25-21, 25-14, 25-17) and John Woods in the final game
(25-5, 25-8, 26-24) in straight sets. The Cardinals will travel to East Central on Wednesday.

(10/16/09) MAC to play at 3:00 and 7:00 today during American Family Insurance Classic. Due to an emergency delay from the Alabama team, there has been a change in the schedule of games for the tournament that is taking place in the Bob Sechrest Field House today. MAC will play at 3:00 and 7:00 (rather than 5:00 and 7:00). Everything else remains the same. Here is the updated schedule:

(10/12/09) MAC volleyball travels to Hillsboro on Wednesday to take on Jefferson. The Cardinals (19-6) play the Vikings (15-8) at 6:30 in a key MCCAC and Region 16 battle.

(10/5/09) MAC Volleyball Wins Northwest Shoals, (AL) Patriot Classic Tournament. The Lady Cards (18-6) swept their way to the tournament title by defeating
Bevil St, NW Shoals, Snead, and Wallace St. in the Championship Match. Wallace St. entered the Final a perfect 21-0 before falling to the Lady Cardinals.
(10/1/09) The MAC Volleyball team hits the road to participate in the Northwest Shoals Patriot Classic. The Lady Cardinals (14-6) will travel to Muscle Shoals, AL to play in the weekend event. Other participating schools are
Bevill, John A. Logan, Lawson, Wallace-Hanceville, NW-SCC, Wallace-Selma, Snead State and Gadsden State.
(9/28/09) Volleyball travels to #9 West Plains tomorrow night. The Mineral Area Lady Cards (14-5) will be on the road Tuesday and face one of their toughest tests. West Plains (8-5) is currently ranked 9th in the latest NJCAA poll. The Grizzlies have won 10 consecutive Region XVI titles. MAC is coming off a road win at Florissant Valley last Wednesday.
(9/21/09) Volleyball team goes 1-2 in ICC Tournament The Cardinals fell to Indian Hills and Illinois Central College but defeated SWIC. The Cardinals are now 13-5 on the season. They will play Flo Valley in St. Louis on Wednesday for a 6:30 MCCAC battle.

(9/14/09) MAC Volleyball gets big home win on Friday over 21st ranked Lake Land College. The Cardinals defeated Lake Land College (10-2) out of Mattoon, IL on Friday night by the scores of 25-16, 28-26, 21-25, 25-20. Freshman Tisha Meyer (St. Genevieve) had 36 assists in the win. The Cards were also aided by Rachel Kleekamp's (St. Francis Borgia) 14 kills and Kelsey Davault's (Farmington) 18 digs. Sophomore Monika Barros de Alcantara (Lee College) had 5 aces in the win. (8/31/09) MAC Volleyball places 2nd in McKendree Invitational. The Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals swept through pool play and into the championship game before losing to Southwestern Illinois in the final. The championship game was closely contested as SWIC snuck out a close win by the scores of

(11/10) Two Cardinals recognized on NJCAA Region XVI All-Region team. The Region XVI Coaches selected their award recipients this past week. Trish Knight of MSU-West Plains was honored as the "Region XVI Coach of the Year" as her (36-13) Grizzlies won the Region Championship Tournament 25-17,25-17,25-19 over Jefferson College at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse. Nile Whaley-Garrison from MSU-West Plains edged out Elizabeth Reid from Jefferson for "Player of the Year" honors. Milaca Balandzic, a 5'10 sophomore OH and Bailey Stanley, a 5'11" sophomore OH were Mineral Area's award recepients.
(11/3) The Cardinals drop final regular season game to #10 MSU-West Plains in Region XVI Contest. The Cards played their final regualer season game of the season and dropped a three game match to the Bears 16-25, 15-25, and 15-25. The Cradinals finished the regular season 32-13 and earned the #3 seed in the upcoming Region XVI Tournament at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.
(10/27) Mineral Area drops two at Illinois Central CC Tournament. The Cards traveled to Peoria, IL, over the weekend to compete in their last road tournament of the season. They beat Southwestern Illinois, but dropped two on the weekend to #9 Parkland (IL) and host #2 Illinois Central.
(10/23) MAC grabs key win at MCCAC Finale event over #16 East Central. The Cards move to 4-2 in the MCCAC and 31-10 on the season with the win over the Falcons in 3 game event at Jefferson College that showcases the conference.
(10/13) Cards sweep two home Tri-Matches at Sechrest Fieldhouse over weekend. Mineral Area College swept William Woods University and Kaskaskia (IL) College in straight sets on Friday. The Cardinals also earned 3 set sweeps over John Wood (IL) CC and Missouri Baptist University on Saturday to move to 27-9 on the season.
(10/9) Cardinals drop Region XVI and MCCAC Conference match to rival Vikings. Jefferson College brought their #9 national ranking into the Sechrest Fieldhouse and stayed undefeated in MCCAC Conference play with the tough 3 set sweep over Mineral Area. Cards drop to 2-3 in Region play and 2-2 in MCCAC Conference action.
(10/7) Mineral Area earned a 3rd Place finish in the Nortwest Shoals (AL) Invitational Tournament. The Cardinals earned a sweep over Bevil State (AL) 25-16, 25-11 & 25-14 and Mississippi Gulf Coast 25-20, 25-16 & 25-15. MAC also swept Central Alabama 25-22, 25-10 & 25-16 and Southern Union (AL) 25-16, 25-7 & 25-20. Mineral Area won all 4 games in sweeps, but dropped a pair of two game leads to Wallace State (AL) 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 18-25 & 10-15 and the host Northwest Shoals (AL) 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 19-25, 9-15.
(10/2) Cardinals grab MCCAC Conference win in three straight over Trailblazers. Mineral Area outmatched Lewis & Clark CC in Godfrey, IL to push their Conference record to 2-2. The Cards dominated with 25-13, 25-13, & 25-19 victories. Bailey Stanley recorded 8 kills, Brittany Sinclair added 25 assists, and Kelsey Devault notched 14 digs.
(9/29) MAC volleyball wins three games, including a Region XVI contest over the Roadrunners, in the State Fair CC Invitational. The Cards lost to National powerhouse Indian Hills in Sedalia, MO. But, Mineral Area grabbed three wins over the weekend, defeating Neosho (KS), Lincoln Land (IL), and State Fair. MAC is now 2-2 in Region XVI play with the 25-27, 27-25, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Roadrunners.
(9/26) Mineral Area College is noted in NJCAA DI National Volleyball poll. The Cardinals recieved votes in the September 24 edition of the National poll after their 15-3 start. MAC is one of three Region XVI teams to earn National recognition. Jefferson College landed the #10 spot, while MSU-West Plains is ranked #11.
(9/24) Cardinals drop Region XVI game to nationally ranked MSU-West Plains. The Grizzlies spotted Mineral Area a 15-25 win in game one, but roared back to sweep the next three 26-24, 21-25, & 19-25.
(9/22) Mineral Area improves winning streak to 7 games with two wins at John Wood CC Tri-match. The Cardinals defeated Danville (IL) CC 25-18 and 25-9 in a two game sweep to open action in Quincy, IL. Jessica Hill led the way with 7 kills, Brittany Sinclair added 15 assists, and Milica Balandzic notched 12 digs. MAC improved to 15-3 overall with 25-22, 25-18, 25-27, & 25-23 scores in a win over the hosts from John Wood CC. Bailey Stanley had a solid performance with 11 kills, Brittany Sinclair added 37 assists, Chelsea Pinson added 35 digs, and Jessica Hill had 4 blocks in the 4 set win.
(9/18) Cards notch second sweep in a row at home with win over Florissant Valley. Mineral Area College earned a MCCAC Conference win to move to 1-1 in Conference action with the win over STLCC-Florissant Valley. Mineral Area (13-3 overall) cruised by the Fury with 25-16, 25-6, and 25-15 wins. Jessica Hill led the team with 9 kills, Brittany Sinclair added 21 assists, and Chelsea Pinson had 17 digs.
(9/17) Mineral Area avenges one of their three losses with a three set sweep over Southwestern Illinois. The Cards came out firing on all cylinders with 25-16, 25-22, and 25-6 wins over the Blue Storm. The win pushes the Cardinals hot streak to 4 straight. Milica Balandzic led the way with 8 kills, Brittany Sinclair added 24 sets , Kelsey Davault had 10 digs, and Jasmine Houston added 2 blocks.
(9/10) Cardinals force #13 Vikings to four games, but drop Conference opener. Mineral Area traveled to Hillsboro, MO, to face Jeffeson College. The Vikings earned two tough games, 22-25 & 21-25 over the Cards. But, Coach Copeland's squad rebounded in game three to grab a 25-19 win. The Nationally-ranked Vikes ended the rally with a 15-25 score to earn the match. Milica Balandzic and Bailey Stanley led MAC with 15 kills each, Brittany Sinclair added 33 sets, and Chelsea Pinson tallied 25 digs.

The Cards played three games Friday night, beating the host Bearcats of McKendree 25-13 & 26-24. John A. Logan got revenge from last week's loss to the Cards by earning a 25-21 & 25-23 victory. But, Coach Copeland's bunch rebounded by beating Springfield 25-22 & 25-11 in the nightcap. The Cards started Saturday's action with a 25-19 & 25-18 win over Kaskaskia, but dropped their final contest of the weekend to Southwestern Illinois 23-25 & 22-25 in a closely contested match.
(8/28) Cadinals move to 5-0 on the season with a three game sweep of John A. Logan. Mineral Area hosted the Volunteers from Carteville (IL) and stayed perfect on the season with 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23 scores in the victory. Bailey Stanley led the way with 12 kills, Brittany Sinclair had 26 assists, while Milica Balandzic and Chelsea Pinson led the way with 13 digs.
(8/24) Mineral Area opens season with a Championship at the American Family Classic at the Sechrest Fieldhouse. The MAC Cardinals Volleyball team opened their season with a 4-0 record and a Championship at the American Family Classic. The Cards won both games Friday, defeating Lindenwood University (MO) and State Fair CC (MO). The win over State Fair was also a Region XVI contest, where the Cards are 1-0. MAC continued their solid start with wins over Bevil State (AL) and Nortwest Shoals (AL) to claim the title on Saturday.
(4/21) Mineral Area College announces player signings for 2008 season. Cardinals Head Coach Tim Copeland is excited about adding five new players to the Cardinals roster for the upcoming season. Brittany Sinclair (Setter) from Festus HS (Festus, MO) is considered a very hard worker and a good leader on and off the court. Carrisa Garber (Hitter) from Crystal City HS (Crystal City, MO) will bring alot of energy and stability to the team. Carissa's high school team went to the Missouri Championships twice in her four seasons. Kelsey Devalt (Defensive Specialist) from Farmington HS (Farmington, MO) has a great work ethic and determination to win. "The addition of Kelsey should help make our defensive rotation very strong this season," commented Coach Copeland. Haley Motley (Hitter) from North County HS (Bonne Terre, MO) has an aggressive work-ethic and should be an immediate impact on the Cardinals front-line. Haley has been the go-to hitter for several years at NCHS. Lindsey Malone (Hitter) from Jonesboro HS (Jonesboro, AR) has been playing for a very high-level club team for the past 4 years and has developed high standards for winning. "Lindsey's addition should help make us solid from the beginning," added Coach Copeland.
(4/18) Clewis & Isham Together Again: Norfolk State University signs two MAC Cardinals for the 2008 season. Angie Clewis and Aurelia Isham came to Mineral Area College together two years ago from Lancaster HS (Dallas, TX). They will be leaving together with the same destination. The pair will be attending Norfolk State University is a NCAA Division I affiliate of the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) located in Norfolk, VA. Clewis, a 5'10" OH, was a standout performer. She earned NJCAA All-Region XVI 2nd Team honors, and was selected on the MCCAC All-Conference team. Isham, a 5'7" hitter, was a versatile player for Mineral Area for the past two seasons.
(4/14) Andrea Lucas inks a National Letter of Intent to attend McKendree University. Lucas spent two successful seasons at Mineral Area College after a solid high school career at Festus HS (Festus, MO). The 5'10" OH was honored by the MCCAC as an All-Conference performer and by the NJCAA Region XVI Coaches as an All-Region selection this season. McKendree is an NAIA affiliate located in Lebenon, IL. "Andrea will be missed, but will make a definate impact for McKendree next season," commented Coach Tim Copeland.
(11/7) Three Cardinals earn NJCAA All-Region XVI honors for 2007. Ana Markovic, a 6'0" sophomore setter from Serbia was selected as a first team honoreee. She is joined on the first team by 5'10" sophomore OH, Andrea Lucas (Festus, MO). 5'11" MH Angie Clewis (Dallas, TX) was selected on the second team.
