(7/26/18)  MAC has four golfers earn Academic All-American honors.  The winners of the Golf Coaches Association of America Academic National Champions have been announced.  South Mountain was named the NJCAA D-II Champions. It appears that among all NJCAA D-I and D-II teams Mineral Area College placed second academically.

(5/14/18) Mike Mapes Hired as Mineral Area College’s New Men’s Golf Coach.  Mike Mapes has been hired as the new men’s golf coach at Mineral Area College. Mike takes over the program following the resignation of Don Huff. Coach Huff resigned from his position as head men’s golf coach after leading the program for five years. Mike Mapes is a retired teacher, coach, and administrator from the Potosi School District. While at Potosi, Mapes coached football for three years, boys’ basketball for 16 years, golf for 21 years, and served as the district’s high school athletic director for 13 years. Mike also spent four years as an assistant principal at Potosi High School. Some of Mapes’ career accomplishments in athletics include being named MSHSAA Athletic Director of the Year and KTJJ Coach of the Year twice. Four of Mapes’ former student-athletes were also named KTJJ Golfers of the Year. Coach Mapes currently resides in Farmington, Missouri.

(5/7/18)  Cardinals conclude season in district tournament. 

The Mineral Area College golf team wrapped up the NJCAA District I Tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club on Monday, April 30th.  The Cardinals finished the tournament in 6th place with a team score of 993.  Individual scores:

Kobe Franklin – 80, 80, 81 – 241- T14th overall, 4th in Region XVI

Tyler Andrews – 78, 85, 83 – 246

Zane West-Derby – 87, 84, 81 – 252

Brandon Wagner – 82, 87, 85 – 254

(4/30/18)  Men playing in district tournament.  The Mineral Area College golf team will wrap up their participation in the NJCAA District I Tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club on Monday, April 30th.  The top two teams in the district and the top five individuals not on one of the top two teams will advance to the NJCAA DII Men’s Golf National Tournament in Foley, AL scheduled for May 21st-24th. 

(4/26/18)  MAC finishes in 7th place at Rend Lake.  The Mineral Area College golf team traveled to Ina, IL to participate in the Rend Lake Golf Tournament on Sunday, April 15th and Monday, April 16th.  MAC finished in 7th place at the tournament, with a two-day team score of 637.

The Mineral Area College golf team will travel to Alton, IL to participate in the Lewis and Clark Invitational on Tuesday, April 24th.  The tournament will be played at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.  On Sunday, April 29th and Monday, April 30th, MAC will travel to Cape Girardeau, MO to participate in the District I Golf Tournament.  The tournament will be played at Dalhousie Golf Club.  The top two team scores and the top five individuals not on one of the two teams will qualify for the NJCAA National Golf Tournament in Foley, AL.

(4/5/18)  Golf postponed.  The MAC golf team's tournament scheduled for Saturday, April 7th in Alton, IL has been postponed until Tuesday, April 24th. 

(4/2/18)  Cardinals host Winter Warm-Up. The Mineral Area College golf team hosted their annual Winter Warmup Tournament on Monday, March 26th.  The tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th, but because of weather conditions, the tournament was changed to only one day.  MAC took 2nd in the tournament with a team score of 315.  Team scores:

(3/18/18)  Cardinals kick off season in Alabama. The Mineral Area College golf team opened their 2018 season last week.  The Cardinals participated in the Ron Marshall Spring Fling at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, AL.  The tournament ran from Thursday, March 15th – Saturday, March 17th.  MAC tied for 12th in the tournament with a total score of 941.  The Cardinals’ score of 941 is a 19 stroke improvement from last year’s score at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling.  Individual scores:

(10/7/17) MAC wraps up fall season.  The Mineral Area College men’s golf team wrapped up their fall by traveling to Foley, AL to participate in the NJCAA DII National Preview on Monday, October 30th and Tuesday, October 31st. (10/9/17) MAC travels to Henderson State, Arkansas for tournament.  The MAC golf team participated in a tournament hosted by Henderson State University in Hot Springs, AR last week.  The tournament began on Sunday, October 1st and ran through Tuesday, October 3rd at Hot Springs Country Club.  The Cardinals finished 11th overall in the tournament.

(10/3/17)  Cardinals playing in Henderson State Tournament.  The MAC golf team is currently participating in a tournament hosted by Henderson State University in Hot Springs, AR.  The tournament began on Sunday, October 1st and runs through Tuesday, October 3rd.  The tournament is being played at Hot Springs Country Club.

 

(9/20/17) MAC continues fall schedule. The Mineral Area College golf team participated in a tournament hosted by Missouri S&T at Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla, MO on Sunday, September 17th.  The Cardinals finished the tournament in third place with a combined score of 312.  Individual scores:

(9/11/17)  Wagner shoots 76 to lead Cards to 2nd place victory.  The Mineral Area College golf team participated in the Lewis and Clark Fall Tournament on Saturday, September 9th.  The Cardinals finished the tournament in second place out of three team.  Brandon Wagner won the tournament and Tyler Andrews finished 3rd overall.

(9/6/17)  MAC kicks off fall season.  The Mineral Area College golf team participated in the Rend Lake College Fall Tournament on Thursday, August 31st and Friday, September 1st.  The Cardinals finished the tournament in fourth place out of seven teams.  36 hole individual scores:

(7/20/17)  MAC golf team named Academic National Champions. Congratulations to Coach Don Huff and the entire MAC golf team on being named Golf Coaches Association of America NJCAA DII Academic National Champions! 


The golf team finished the year with a 3.52 GPA.
