(11/19/09) Men's Basketball gets key Conference win over Lewis & Clark.
Demetrius Harris scored from close range with 2.8 seconds left in the game to give the Cardinals a 64-63 conference victory over the nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Trailblazers last night at the Bob Sechrest Field House. Mineral Area led after a low scoring first half 24-20, but both teams nearly doubled their scoring in the 2nd half as the Trailblazers outscored MAC 43-40. This was the 1st conference game for MAC (3-2) and Lewis & Clark (4-1) on the season. Kent State signee Carlton Guyton led the Cardinals with 17 points while Harris added 13.
Mineral Area will now be in action this weekend at home in the Bob Sechrest Classic. The schedule is listed below.

(11/16/09) Mineral Area College will host the Bob Sechrest Classic this weekend. The Bob Sechrest Classic will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Bob Sechrest Field House. This years event has one of the strongest fields in the event's history and should be one of the strongest JUCO Classic's in the nation. Participants includes #4 Three Rivers, 3-time National Champion
# 21 Indian Hills, and perennial Region 4 power Kennedy King. The schedule is as follows:

(11/11/09) Mineral Area Sophomore Al Rapier will play at Division I Stony Brook
Al Rapier a 6'6" forward from Chicago, IL (Perspectives Charter Academy) has committed to play for the Stony Brook Seawolves out of the American East Conference.
Rapier was an All-Conference selection (Blue West) in 2008, averaging 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 assist a contest for Perspectives Charter Academy. Rapier's solid double-double average also garnered him Illinois All-State honors in 2008.

(11/11/09) MAC Sophomore Carlton Guyton has committed to play at Division I Kent State. Carlton Guyton a 6' 4" guard from Chicago, IL (Rich South) will play in the Mid-American Conference next year for the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Ohio school has had a strong history of success competing in 5 out of the last 11 NCAA Tournament's and recording 10 consecutive 20 win seasons before winning 19 last year.
Carlton had offers from Drake and Loyola, but he was also receiving heavy interest from Illinois St., UAB, UNC-Greensboro, and Cal State Northridge.

(11/11/09) 6th ranked Southwestern Illinois slips by MAC
The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team was unable to put a close game away in the last minutes and SWIC (3-1) won their third consecutive game in 3 years at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse. The Cardinals were up 2 points with about a minute to play but the Blue Storm scored the last 4 points of the game to come out with a 68-66 victory.
The Cardinals (2-2) will be be in action next Wednesday as a part of a Men's and Women's doubleheader with Lewis and Clark.

(11/9/09) Men's Basketball gets two big wins at Three Rivers Tip-Off Classic
MAC scored two decisive wins in Poplar Bluff this weekend defeating Southeastern Illinois 79-59 on Friday and Arkansas Baptist 81-65 on Saturday.
Mineral Area used solid defense in the second half Friday to turn a close game into a 25 point lead and ultimately a 20 point win over the Falcons from Southeastern Illinois.
The Cardinals (2-1) came back on Saturday to defeat Arkansas Baptist who is coached by former Arkansas Razorback and NBA star Corliss Williamson. The Cardinals defeated the Buffaloes 81-65. MAC will now face #6 Southwestern Illinois College at home on Tuesday night immediately following the Women's game which starts at 5:30

(11/5/09) Cardinals have 3rd toughest schedule in the nation. The JUCO Classic News Service has ranked the Mineral Area men's basketball schedule as the 3rd toughest in the nation. Southern Idaho has the toughest. The Cardinals have 7 games against ranked Division I opponents and 2 against ranked Division II teams.
(11/4/09) Basketball falls to #27 John A. Logan. The Men's basketball team started the season with a tough road loss last night in Carterville, IL against a ranked opponent. The Cardinals (0-1) started the game slowly falling behind 7-0 in the early minutes but fought their way back to take a 66-63 lead in the 2nd half on a Riley Raulston 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining. The Volunteers (1-0) recaptured the lead and hit crucial free throws down the stretch, going 11 of 12 overall from the line to seal the 77-74 victory.
Raulston led the team with 16 points and Drew Thomas added 12 points and returning sophomore Carlton Guyton finished with 11 . The Cardinals will look to bounce back down at Poplar Bluff against Southeastern Illinois at the Three Rivers Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening. Daily Journal Article.

Men's Basketball starts season on the road. The MAC Men's basketball team will open up their regular season in Carterville, IL to play
#27 John A. Logan on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 P.M. The Cardinals defeated the Vols 83-72 last year at MAC.
They travel to Three Rivers on Friday to take on Southeastern Illinois CC at 5:00 and on Saturday they return to the Bess Activity Center to play Arkansas Baptist at 5:00. The Cards home opener is Tuesday, November 10 vs. preseason #6 Southwestern Illinois Community College at 7:30 in the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.
(10/13/09) Men's Basketball continues their Pre-Season schedule this week. The Mineral Area Cardinals Men's Basketball team will travel to Lebanon, IL to take on McKendree University on Wednesday at 7:00. Then, on Saturday they travel to Southern Indiana University for the Rick Ball Jamboree.
(10/12/09) Midnight Madness will take place Thursday, October 22nd.
Midnight Madness 2009 will take place at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse starting immediately after the Women's volleyball game with West Plains at 6:30. The introduction of both the Men's and Women's Basketball team's will start at 8:15. Midnight Madness will include a Slam Dunk Contest and a 3-Point Shooting Contest. The Cardinals travel to Three Rivers on Saturday to open their preseason scrimmage schedule. They play the Raiders at 10:00 am and Lindenwood University at 11:45.

(9/2/09) Head Coach Corey Tate releases 2009-2010 Schedule. The Men's basketball team will open up on Tuesday November 3rd at John A. Logan in Carterville, IL. Their next games will be at the Three Rivers Tip-Off on November 6th (SE Illinois)and 7th (Arkansas Baptist). Print out your schedule here
(4/17) Cardinals add St. Louis area standout Bobby Peebles from McCluer North High School. The 6'2" shooting guard is a versatile guard that can score off the dribble, shoot the three, act as a playmaker, and can defend all three perimeter positions. “Bobby is a great player that played in one of the best programs in the state. He’s a proven winner, I love that about him. I see him fitting in our system and excelling for the next two seasons,” stated MAC Head Coach Corey Tate. Bobby Peebles had a solid three seasons at McCluer North helping his Stars compile a 70-15 record over that span. He played in two Missouri Class 5A Championship games, winning the State Championship in 2007. Peebles was the team leader this past season as McCluer North finished 21-7. He averaged 16 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.5 APG, 3.3 SPG, 1.5 BPG, while shooting 35% (58/93) from behind the arc. He earned many accolades as a senior. Peebles was named to the Suburban North All-Conference Team, the St. Louis Post-Dipatch All-Metro Honorable Mention team, and to the ESPN All-Area St. Louis Metro on the Rise “Top 15” list. (4/16) Mineral Area College inks one of the top point guards from the state of Tennessee. C. J. Crittendon, a 5'11” point guard, from Dyer County High School (Newbern, TN) inked a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cardinals in 2009-10. Crittendon, a three year starting point guard, averaged 16 PPG, 5 APG, and 4 RPG during the 2008-09 season. DCHS was ranked #1 in the Class AA Tennessee poll for most of the season and finished with a record of 32-3. Crittendon was considered one of the best players in Tennessee as he was nominated to the McDonald’s All-American team (only 21 nominees from the state). He has been honored as an AA All-State selection for three straight seasons, earned three straight AA All-Region honors (including the MVP in 2009), and is a three-time All-District 13 honoree. Dyer County was 94-13 in his three seasons as the starting point guard, made two trips to the Tennessee AA State Tournament semi-finals, and won three consecutive regular and post-season District Championships. (3/24) Mineral Area College completes the 2008-09 season with a 19-12 record and plays for the Region XVI Championship. The Cardinals started the season by going toe-to-toe with #2 Chipola (FL) CC before dropping the game in the Tip-Off Classic. MAC had a great run in the first half of the season finishing 2008 with a record of 10-5, with wins over power-house opponents such as John A. Logan (IL), Kennedy-King (IL), and Redlands (OK). The Cards struggled out of the gate in 2009 dropping four games while trying to hit stride. But, the "Fastest 40 Minutes" style returned to form as MAC won eight of their last ten games of the season. The Cardinals grabbed wins over Vincennes (IN), Southeastern (IL), MSU-West Plains, and Moberly in that stretch. The stretch run put MAC in second place in the final Region XVI standings, earning the #2 seed in the tournament. The Cards ran away from State Fair in the semi-finals, but dropped a hard-fought Championship game to Three Rivers. This was the third time in four years that Mineral Area College played in the Region XVI Championship game. Byron Pickens, Sean Scott, and Eric McCrary were honored by the MCCAC as All-Conference selections. Gerald Fulton, Jeremy Felton, and Mike Stovall were named to the NJCAA All-Region XVI team.
(3/8) Cardinals play for third Region XVI Championship in four years, but drop heart-breaker to Three Rivers. Mineral Area College started off the heavy-weight #1 vs. #2 match-up by landing several blows and grabbing an early lead. The Raiders counter-punched to a 40-31 half-time advantage. Three Rivers built the lead to 14 before the Cards went on a run to grab a lead late in the second half. The Raiders rebounded and went on an 11-0 run down the stretch to earn a 84-75 win in the Championship game. MAC was led by Gerald Fulton with 24 points, 7 rebounds, & 4 assists. Byron Pickens added 12 & 8, Eric McCrary chipped in 11 & 7, and Sean Scott added 11 & 5 assists.
(3/6) #2 Cardinals advance to NJCAA Region XVI Championship game with 66-54 win over #3 Roadrunners. Mineral Area College grabbed an early lead, but let it slip away near the half. The Cards trailed 30-28 at the half, but they regrouped in the locker-room and came out scorching. Stellar defense held State Fair to only 24 second half points, as Gerald Fulton led the Cardinals with 24 points and Eric McCrary added 10. #2 Mineral Area College (19-11) will face the #1 seeded Three Rivers Raiders (27-4) at Jefferson College (Hillsboro, MO) at 7:00pm in the Region XVI Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 7.
(3/5) Three more Cardinals earn post-season awards as NJCAA All-Region XVI team is announced. Gerald Fulton, a sophomore SG from St. Louis, made a run for "Region XVI Player of the Year" finishing third overall to Marquise Carter and Jeremy Marrs from Three Rivers. Fulton averaged 14.2 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 1.6 APG, and led the team with 50 made three pointers. Jeremy Felton, a 6'7" sophomore PF, has been a force in the paint for the Cardinals fro two years. Felton averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks this season. Mike Stovall, a 6'5" versatile G/W that signed with NCAA DI DePaul University (Chicago, IL) averaged 8.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assist in is sophomore season at MAC.
(2/27) Three Cardinals honored by MCCAC Coaches on the All-Conference team. Sean Scott, a sophomore PG, has been a solid floor general for Mineral Area College for the past two seasons. Scott is averaging 6 PPG (leads Region XVI), 5 APG & 3 RPG this season. Byron Pickens, a 6'7" sophomore PF/C that made a verbal commitment to NCAA DI Univ. of Illinois-Chicago, was also voted to the first team. Pickens is avereging 6 PPG, 6 RPG, and shooting 47% from the floor this season. Eric McCrary, a 6'7" sophomore sharp-shooting PF, was also honored on the MCCAC first team. McCrary is averaging 6 PPG, 5 RPG, 2 APG, and has made 35 3FG (2nd on team). "We are very proud of these sophomores. They have put in the hard work and deserve the recognition the MCCAC has given them," commented Corey Tate.
(9/13/07) Men's Basketball Personal Development Program Getting Rave Reviews. The MAC Men's Basketball Coaching staff implemented a Personal Development Program this year designed to help educate their student-athletes about a variety of topics. "We believe that this program will help our players develop good life-long habits and help reflect our character standards here at MAC," stated Assistant Coach Chad Kish. The student-athletes had 15-30 minute seminars daily over the first several weeks of the semester on topics such as: Planning for Academic Success, Injury Prevention and Nutrition Guidelines, NJCAA Regulations, Drug & Alcohol Prevention, College Life 101, Residence Hall Living, Financial Planning, Community Involvement, Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, Character Development, among others. "This is a great way for students to start their college career, this information is valuable for their sucess as young men," commented Head Coach Corey Tate.
