(8/23/10) Meet the Cardinals at Engler Park scheduled for September 9th.
Mineral Area College is inviting the community to come out and spend a few minutes meeting the athletes of all of our fine sports teams for the upcoming year. Bring the kids out to meet the 2010-2011 Cardinals on Thursday evening, September 9, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Knight Pavilion in Engler Park, Farmington. Coaches and athletes from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s baseball, women’s softball, men’s golf, women’s volleyball, and the MAC Cheerleaders will be on hand. The Coaches will be grilling up hotdogs and serving soft drinks while the athletes will host a variety of activities and games for the kids to play.
(7/27/10) Mineral Area women's basketball releases 2010-2011 roster. The women's basketball team had a tremendous recruiting effort in the off-season bringing in 8 new players for the upcoming season and return a redshirt from last season.
Kate Alemann a 6' 3" Freshman post player. She is from Auckland, New Zealand and went to high school at Ransito College. She led her club team to a 2nd place finish nationally in New Zealand. Whitney McNeely a 5'4" Freshman pg from Jackson, MO. She went Jackson High School.
Devonna Smith a 5' 10" Sophomore transfer from Division I St. Louis University. She is from St. Louis and went to Kirkwood High School where she had a very sucessful career. She has had a knee injury at SLU and has recuperated fully and will join us for her Sophomore season. She is the niece of current Athletic Director Tim Gray.
Taylor Smith a 5'5" Freshman guard. Her home is Advance, MO. She played at Delta High School. Tierra Williams a 6'0" Freshman post player from Chicago, IL. High School: Curie Metro High School. Victoria Williams a 6'0" Freshman post player from Poplar Bluff, MO High School Poplar Bluff High School
Beth Thompson a 5'8" Freshman Forward from Mission, Texas. High School Sharyland H.S. Briannica Tye a 5'3" Sophomore point guard from Aurora, IL. High School : West Aurora High School. Bri played at Division 1 IUPUI last year where she was the starting point guard and led her team in assists.
Rita Banaszczak a 5'11" , redshirt Freshman forward from Warszawa, Poland. Her high school was :

(5/3/10) Head Coach Gary Koch announces 5 player signings for 2010-2011 season. The Mineral Area Women's Basketball team has signed 5 players for the upcoming basketball season. Taylor Smith out of Delta High School in Delta, Missouri. Victoria (Tory) Williams out of Poplar Bluff. Whitney McNeely from Jackson High School and Tierra Williams out of Curie High School in Chicago, IL.
Taylor Smith is a 5'5" guard from Delta High School in Delta, Missouri. She had an outstanding season for Delta averaging 16.0 ppg, 4.8 apg, 4.5 spg, 3.8 rpg and 40 percent on 3-pointers. Taylor was 1st team All-District and 2nd team All-State.
Tory Williams is a very good player from the Poplar Bluff Mules program. Williams is a 6'0" post player who brings immediate help to the Cardinals interior game.
Whitney McNeely is a 5'4" guard who had a standout career for the Jackson Fighting Indians program in Southeast Missouri.
Tierra Williams is another 6'0" post player who starred for Curie High School in Chicago, Illinois.
The Cardinals will return Rita Banaszczak (red shirt last year), Kassi Hovis (red shirt last year),Molly Barnes, Emily Brumitt, Sonya Milford, Kylie Oertel and Hanna Vette from last years squad.
(3/3/10) Women's season comes to an end in the Region XVI Tournament. The MAC Women lost a 70-62 overtime game last night at Moberly in the quarterfinals of the Region XVI Tournament.
(3/1/10) Head Coach Gary Koch announces dates for 2010 Summer Instructional Camp. Mineral Area Women's Basketball will host a 2010 summer instructional camp for any aspiring basketball player that is entering the 5th grade and older. The camps dates are set for Tuesday June 15th through Friday June 18th.

(3/1/10) Cardinals fall to State Fair in last regular season game. Women's basketball lost a close game to the State Fair Road Runners on Saturday night in Sedalia by the score of 62-58. Leola Hubbard led MAC with 16 pts. The Lady Cardinals will now turn their attention to the Region XVI Tournament this week.
MAC will play Tuesday, March 2nd at Moberly at 7:00 P.M. The winner will play #1 seed Jefferson College in Jefferson City on Friday.
NJCAA REGION XVI WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
(2/26/10) MAC defeats Crowder in Region XVI road game. The Mineral Area Women's Basketball team picked up a key Region XVI road victory last night in Crowder. MAC went down to Neohso to defeat the lady Riders by the score of 82-78. The Lady Cards will play their final regular season game on the road on Saturday at State Fair. Game time is set for 5:30.
(2/23/10) Four players receive MCCAC All-Conference recognition. The MCCAC All-Conference teams have been announced for the 2009-2010 basketball season:
Karley Evans a 5'9" sophomore guard from Rock Port High School in Rock Port Missouri was named 1st Team All-Conference. Karley has averaged 10.9 points per game while shooting an impressive 37.8% from 3-point range.
Karley is 98 for 113 from the free throw line shooting 87.5% for the year. She also has averaged 5.9 assists 4.8 rebounds per game.
Shelli Liverpool a 5'11 sophomore forward from Cleveland Heights High School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio was named to the MCCAC Honorable Mention Team. Shelli has averaged 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Leola Hubbard a 5'6" sophomore guard from Caruthersville High School in Caruthersville, MO has been named to the MCCAC Honorable Mention Team. Leola averaged 10.7 points while shooting 84.3% from the free throw line and 39.8 from 3-point range.
Emily Brumitt a 5'9" freshman guard from Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri was named to the MCCAC Honorable Mention Team. Emily averaged 7.6 points per game while going 46/110 from 3-point range for a 41.8%
(2/22/10) Women's Basketball defeats Three Rivers on Homecoming Night. The Mineral Area Women's basketball team notched a MCCAC and Region XVI victory over Three Rivers on Saturday. The Cardinals continued their recent history of stellar free-throw shooting, making 16 straight and 25 of 29 to help lead to the 69-58 victory.
Shelli Liverpool led the Cardinals with 18 points in front of the large crowd at the Bob Sechrest Field House. Chelsey Johnson led Three Rivers and all scoring with 21. MAC will now play two more Region XVI road games to conclude their regular season. The first being at Crowder on Thursday night at 6:00 P.M.

(2/17/10) Women's Basketball plays two MCCAC Conference games this week. They will play a conference game on Wednesday against Forest Park in St. Louis. Their start time is scheduled for 5:00 P.M. On Saturday, the Cardinals will play the first game of the doubleheader against Three Rivers as a part of the Homecoming Activities. MAC (17-9) defeated Three Rivers by the score of 74-63 earlier in the season.
(2/12/10) Women lose Region XVI game in Iowa. The MAC Lady Cards lost a 1 point game to Region XVI rival Iowa Western last night in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Cardinals Hanna Vette had 18 points and Leola Hubbard scored 15 points with 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough, as Iowa Western won the game by the score of 72-71. Mineral Area (17-8) will now play another Region XVI road game at Moberly on Saturday at 5:00 P.M.

(2/9/10) Lady Cards hit the road for two Region XVI games. The Mineral Women's Basketball team will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa to play Iowa Western Thursday at 7:00 P.M. in a Region XVI contest. The Cardinals will stay on the road and play Moberly on Saturday at 5:00 P.M. The Cardinals are 17-7 overall and 4-3 in the Region XVI.
(2/8/10) Women drop home game to 25th ranked Vincennes. Women's Basketball lost a home game to a tough opponent on Saturday afternoon by the score of 82-72. Vincennes, (Indiana) has been highly ranked throughout the season and is currently the 25th ranked team in the latest NJCAA Poll. The win avenged an earlier loss as Mineral Area had defeated them in Indiana by the score of 87-77.
The Cardinals made a run late, pulling within three points at 69-66, but 3 consecutive baskets by Deanna Thompson allowed the Trailblazer's (18-4) to pull away with the victory. Sonya Milford and Karley Evans each had 14 points to lead the Cardinals. Mineral Area (17-7) will now travel to Iowa Western for a Region XVI road game on Thursday.

(2/1/10) Lady Cardinals drop home game to 13th ranked State Fair. Women's Basketball lost a home game on Saturday night to State Fair (20-2) out of Sedalia, MO. The Cardinals played even with the Roadrunners in the 1st half but they ultimately fell too far behind late to drop the Region XVI game 76-63. Mineral Area (17-5) will play Vincennes on Saturday at home at 2:00 P.M.

(1/29/10) Jefferson College stops Lady Cards win streak. The Mineral Area women lost last night to a very good Jefferson College team by the score of 85-64. MAC had won 5 in a row and 12 out of 13 but couldn't get the home victory against the 2nd ranked Vikings (19-1). Shelli Liverpool led the Cardinals (17-5) with 19 points. MAC will look to rebound with a victory on Saturday against State Fair at 5:00 at the Bob Sechrest Field House.

(1/25/10) Good shooting helps Lady Cards to another victory. Mineral Area shot 67% from the floor and 28 from 32 from the free throw line to gain an important Region XVI home win over the Moberly Greyhounds 93-85 on Saturday night. The Cardinals were down at halftime but exploded for 60 points in the 2nd half to run their Region XVI record to 4-1. MAC had 5 scorer's in double figures led by Karley Evans with 20 points and 8 assists. Mineral Area (17-4) will now play Thursday at home against Jefferson College.

(1/22/10) Lady Cards defeat Iowa Western in dramatic fashion. With the Cardinals down by 2 points, Leola Hubbard buried a three pointer with 3.4 seconds left to defeat Iowa Western (13-7) last night by the score of 57-56. The game was close throughout as the Cardinals led by two at halftime. Iowa Western is now a part of the Region XVI and the win improved the Cardinals to 3-1 in Region play. Shelli Liverpool led MAC (16-4) with 15 points. Mineral Area will next host Moberly, Saturday at 5:00 P.M.

(1/19/10) Women's basketball records Region XVI road win The Mineral Area Women's basketball team got a key Region XVI victory over Crowder on Saturday night. The Cardinals were once again led by Shelli Liverpool who scored 22 points. Kylie Oertel had 15 and Leola Hubbard had 8 points and 9 assists. Vivian Essuon also had 6 points and 10 rebounds in the 85-75 win.
MAC (15-4) will now play Iowa Western Thursday at home at 7:00 P.M.

(1/14/10) Lady Cards hold on for 70-63 victory. The Mineral Area Women's basketball team got a conference home win on Wednesday night against Florissant Valley. The Cardinals led throughout most of the game but had to hold off a furious rally by the Fury where they cut the lead to 3 points with 30 seconds left. MAC was led by Leola Hubbard and Kylie Oertel who scored 18 and 12 points to lead the Cards. Mineral Area (14-4) will be in action next at home against Crowder at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday.

(1/11/10) Women’s basketball lost a tough 72-68 game to #3 Jefferson on the road in Hillsboro last Wednesday. The Lady Cards gave them quite a scare, leading by 8 with 8 minutes to go, but they could not hold on. Then, they rebounded to defeat Three Rivers in Poplar Bluff 74-63 on Saturday. The Cardinals will be in action on Wednesday against MCCAC foe Florissant Valley at home at 5:30.
(1/04/10) Women's basketball plays conference rival Jefferson College on Thursday night. The Mineral Area women's basketball team plays a key MCCAC Conference and Region XVI contest on Thursday night in Hillsboro at 7:00 P.M. The Cardinals (12-3) have won 7 games in a row and 10 out of their last 11. Jefferson is 12-1 and ranked 3rd in the latest NJCAA Poll.
(12/9/09) Mineral Area Women receive votes in latest NJCAA Poll The MAC women's basketball team has gotten off to an impressive start. Impressive enough to be mentioned in the December 8th NJCAA National Poll of Division I Women's basketball teams. The Cardinals are 8-3 thus far against stiff competition. They have won 6 of their last 7 with the only loss coming on the road to a ranked Cloud County, Kansas team. MAC is one of 7 schools who received votes who are not ranked inside the top 25.

(12/9/09) The Rotary Shootout takes place this weekend at the Bob Sechrest Field House. The long standing tradition of the Rotary Shootout will take place on Saturday at MAC. It is a charity event that benefits the Rotary Club at a $5 cost to attend all 5 games. The schedule is as follows:

(12/07/09) MAC Women have big weekend in Indiana. The Mineral Area Women's Basketball team had a very successful trip this weekend scoring successive wins over Olney Central, #10 Vincennes, and Southeastern IL in the Vincennes Classic. The Cardinals are now 8-3 on the season and will be in action on Saturday against John A. Logan as a part of the Rotary Shootout at MAC.

(11/30/09) Lady Cards split two games out in Kansas. The Cardinals Women's Basketball team played two games out in Cloud County Kansas this weekend going 1-1. MAC defeated Colby Community College 86-47 on Friday. The Lady Cards had 5 players in double figures with Shelli Liverpool leading the way with 19 points and Leola Hubbard had 15.
MAC had a much more difficult assignment Saturday playing host and # 27 ranked Cloud County (10-1). They fell behind 30-20 at halftime and could not close the gap at the end as the Thunderbirds came away with a 67-61 victory.
Shelli Liverpool led the Cardinals again with 16 points while Taylor Jensen had 13.

(11/23/09) Cardinals win two games at Kirkwood, Iowa Classic. The Mineral Area Women's Basketball team won both their games this weekend defeating John Wood 84-62 on Friday. Karley Evans led the Cardinals with 21 points while
Shelli Liverpool added 17. Taylor Jensen had 14 points and Leola Hubbard 13.
The Cardinals (4-2) came back on Saturday and won a close game over Parkland 63-61. Leola Hubbard led MAC with 16 points.
The Lady Cardinals are back on the road this weekend as they travel to Concordia, KS to play in the Cloud County Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend. They play the host, #23 Cloud County, at 6:00 on Friday and Colby (KS) CC at 2:00 on Saturday.

(11/19/09) Lady Cardinals drop MCCAC Contest to Lewis and Clark. The Women's basketball team lost to an undefeated Lewis & Clark team last night at the Bob Sechrest Field House. MAC was up 32-21 at the half but the Trailblazers of Lewis & Clark came back to outscore the Cardinals 48-28 in the 2nd half to come away with the 69-60 conference victory.
The Cardinals (2-2) are on the road this weekend to participate in the Kirkwood, Iowa Classic.

(11/11/09) MAC Women come from behind to defeat SWIC. The Lady Cardinals outscored Southwestern Illinois College 21-4 to start the 2nd half en route to a 47-45 home win Tuesday night at the Bob Sechrest Field House. In a game of runs, the Cardinals were at separate times down 9 points, and 7 at half time, before taking a 13 point lead in the 2nd half. SWIC went on a 12-1 run of their own to end the game, but it wasn't enough as MAC (2-1) recorded their 2nd consecutive home victory.
The Cardinals are now off until next Wednesday when they take on Lewis and Clark at home starting at 5:30.

(11/5/09) Women's Basketball starts season with 1 point loss. The MAC Women's basketball team narrowly lost their season opener last night in Carterville, IL. The Cardinals shot 24 of 29 from the line to keep the game close but John A. Logan hit the biggest free throw of the game with no time remaining to claim a 72-71 victory. Mineral Area (0-1) got balanced scoring with 5 players in double figures. Sonya Milford had 13 points and Taylor Jensen had 12 with 5 steals. Kylie Oertel added 11, while Shelley Liverpool and Karley Evans chipped with 10 each.
The Cardinals will now play 3 consecutive home games starting with Olney Central on Saturday at 2:00 at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.

Midnight Madness 2009 will take place at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse starting immediately after the Women's volleyball game with West Plains at 6:30. The introduction of both the Men's and Women's Basketball team's will start at 8:15. Midnight Madness will include a Slam Dunk Contest and a 3-Point Shooting Contest. (10/5/09) MAC Women's Basketball opens up their Pre-Season Schedule this week. The Lady Cards travel to Warrensburg on Sunday for the CMU Jamboree to open their preseason schedule.
(9/25/09) Head Coach Gary Koch announces 2009-10 roster for the Mineral Area's Women's Basketball Cardinals. MAC will have four returning sophomores from last year's 22-10 team. Kayla Tisza (5'9" G), Mother McAuley (Chicago, IL), Leola Hubbard, (5'5" G) Caruthersville (MO), Karley Evans (5'9" G) from Rock Port (MO) and Lakia White (5'8" F) St. Louis, MO (Miller's Career Academy). These four players were a big reason the Cards made it to the Region XVI Championship game.
They have 11 newcomers to the 2009-2010 edition including Hanna Vette, a Missouri All-State performer from Rock Port High School, Vivian Essuon a 6'1 Post player from Brampton, Ontario. Two local standouts in All-Staters Molly Barnes and Taylor Jensen from Farmington High School. Shelbee Cowart, a standout PG from Laquey High School. Other newcomers include Gail Williams, (Arcadia Valley), Emily Brummitt, (Cape Notre Dame), Rita Banaszczak (Warsaw, Poland). Shelli Liverpool (Cleveland Heights, OH), Sonya Milford (Sacred Heart College) originally from Wellington, New Zealand and Kylie Oertel a local standout from Fredericktown High School.
(9/2/09) Head Coach Gary Koch releases 2009-2010 schedule. The Lady Cardinals will open up on November 4th against John A. Logan in Carterville, IL. They will then play three consecutive home games against Olney Central (11/7), Southwestern Illinois (11/10), and Lewis and Clark (11/18).

Mineral Area College Women's Basketball Camp June 16-19 (2009). The Mineral Area College Women's Basketball staff will be conducting a four-day summer instructional camp. Gary Koch's Instructional Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 16-19 (Tue-Fri) at Mineral Area College. The Camp is for boys & girls and will concentrate on shooting, ball handling, passing, footwork, and strategy. (4/23) Mineral Area Women's basketball team announces the signing of Vivian Essuon. The 6'1 Post player from Brampton, Ontario will transfer to MAC as a sophomore. Essuon played for Sheridan College of Ontario, Canada last season. Sheridan College won the Ontario College Athletic Association Conference last year with a 14-0 record. Their final overall record was 32-6 and they lost in the CCAA National Championship game. Vivian Essuon was named to OCCA Conference All Rookie Team during her freshman season. "Vivian is very strong post player and a great rebounder. She should help fill a void left by the graduation of three solid interior players," commented Head Coach Gary Koch.
(4/14) Two stand-out MAAA Conference players sign at Mineral Area for the 2009-10 season. All-State basketball players Molly Barnes and Taylor Jensen of Farmington High School both signed on Thursday to continue to play basketball in the Parkland as newly acquired members of Coach Gary Koch's Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals. Barnes is a 5'8" forward that earned MAAA 2nd Team All-Conference honors this past season. She averaged 16.3, PPG 3.9 RPG, and 2.6 APG for the Knightettes. Barnes was also named to the KTJJ Dream team, was the MVP of the Daily Journal High School All-Star game, and selected to the All-Tournament Team in the SEMO Tournament. Taylor Jensen, a 5'7" point guard, earned Missouri Sportswriters 1st Team All-State honors as a senior. She averaged
11.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 4.5 APG notching her MAAA 1st Team All-Conference, All-District (1st Team), and All-Region (1st Team) honors, and was named to the

(4/13) Mineral Area College signs stand-out PG Shelbee Cowart from Laquey High School. Shelbee Cowart had a great Wednesday afternoon as she signed a college letter of intent to attend Mineral Area College and was named to the Missouri All-State Class 2A basketball team. The Frisco League MVP
averaged nearly 18 PPG, 5 RPG and 5 APG, while shooting 50% from the floor during her senior season. The 5'5" super quick PG lead her Hornets team to the
Missouri Class 2A state quarterfinals for only the second time in school history. Cowart has earned all-district honors in soccer and basketball, has made it to the state cross-country meet three times, and is considered one of the best female athletes in Laquey High School History. WDG Article
(4/10) Cardinals ink Hanna Vette, a Missouri All-State performer from Rock Port High School. Hanna Vette, a 5'8" guard/forward, signed with Mineral Area College as the signing period opened. She earned Missouri Sportswriters 1st Team All-State and Missouri Basketball Coach’s Association 1st Team All-State honors as a senior. Vette was also honored as an All-District (1st Team), and All-Region (1st Team) performer and was named to the All-Conference (1st Team). She is from the same high school as current Cardinal Karley Evans.
(3/27) Mineral Area College Women's Basketball team completes their 2008-09 season with a 22-10 record. The Cards finished with an 8-3 record in Region XVI and a 6-2 record in the MCCAC Conference, finish in second place in both organizations. The Lady Cardinals also finished 2nd in the Region 16 Tournament losing to Jefferson College in the championship game. This was the second time in three years MAC has reached the Region Championship Game.
MAC did not crack the top 25 rankings this year but 19 of their games were against opponents who were ranked in the preseason, ranked in the regular season, or participated in the National Tournament. In those 19 games MAC had a 12-7 record. MAC was 10-7 in the first half of the season, playing much better in the second half going 12-3 down the stretch.
MCCAC All-Conference 1st Team members from MAC were Gretchen Gaskin and Caitlin Shadbolt, while second team honors went to LaShayla Bell and Briley Milfeld.
NJCAA All-Region XVI First Team honors went to Caitlin Shadbolt and LaShayla Bell.
(3/8) The Cards end a great season with 22 wins, but can't grab number 23 in Region Championship game over #1 and undefeated Jefferson. Mineral Area was feisty and didn't let the score slow them down as they battled in the second half, playing the #1 team in the nation to within 10 over the final 20 minutes. (3/6) Four Cardinals grab MCCAC All-Conference post-season honors. Gretchen Gaskin, a 5’9” SO PG from Orland Park, IL, averaged 13.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 1.7 spg. Gretchen transferred from a Division 1 program and solidified the point guard position this year. She penetrates well, shoots the jumper or passes to teammates for easy buckets. She has shown the ability to shoot the three pointer during conference play, and led MAC in scoring and assists. Gretchen received 1st team MCCAC All-Conference honors this year. Caitlin Shadbolt, 6’2” SO Center from Coomboona, Austrailia, averaged 12.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, and 81.4 FT%. Caitlin was a 2 year starter for MAC that received 1st team MCCAC All-Conference honors this year. Shadbolt came to MAC as a post player who could score around the basket and she has now elevated her game to become a perimeter threat. Caitlin was MAC's 2nd leading scorer with a 12.2 ppg and 2nd leading rebounder at 7.1 rpg. LaShayla Bell, 5’10” SO PF from St. Louis, MO, averaged 10.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.3 spg earned MCCAC honorable mention All-Conference honors this year. She was a former star track athlete used her athletic prowess to rebound and play stellar defense this year. Ball was the defensive stopper and leading rebounder, as well as earning the most improved player label. Briley Milfeld, 5’9” SO Guard/Forward from Farmington, MO, averaged 10.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, and has made 69 3-pointers this year. Briley was the team's main perimeter threat and increased her scoring substantially from freshman to sophomore year. Briley was the team captain this year and team leader both on and off the court. Briley had a 36.5 3FG% and 80.6 FT% leading to MCCAC honorable mention All-Conference honors.
(3/3) NJCAA Region XVI Tournament: #2 Mineral Area College defeats #7 Crowder College in a 77-57 first-round win for the Cardinals. Mineral Area opened the game on a 10-0 run and rarely looked in the rearview mirror as they kept their foot on the gas all game long. The Cardinals led the Roughriuders 37-29 at the half and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament with the 20-point victory. Gretchen Gaskin led the way with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.
Caitlin Shadbolt played through a sore shoulder and scored 18 points, while adding 5 rebounds.

(11/24) Mineral Area makes furious comeback to take a lead over #2 Kirkwood with 2.7 seconds left. But, the storybook ending slipped away as Kirwood dropped in a buzzer-beater to escape with a 69-68 win to close women's action in the Bob Sechrest Classic. The Cardinals were led by Briley Milfeld's 24 points (6/9 3FG) and Gretchin Gaskin with 13 points and 6 assists. Gaskin hit a shot with 2.7 seconds left to cap off a late surge by the Cards that helped to overcome a 10 point defecit in the closing moments. Mineral Area had several chances to win the game against Northwest Mississippi, but the game slipped away ending in a 78-71 loss. The Cards took a 30-21 lead into the half of their home opener over the Saints on Saturday night. Mineral Area opened up a double-digit lead behind a strong performance from Briley Milfeld with 15 points and 5 rebounds. The Cards held off a late comeback attempt by hitting 6 free-throws down the stretch to earn the 56-50 victory. Mineral Area got off to a slow start in their season opener, leading a scrappy host in Florissant Valley 34-31. (9/17) Head Coach Gary Koch announces 2008-09 roster for Mineral Area's Women's Basketball Cardinals. MAC will have four returning sophomores from last year's 14-17 team. These four players were a big reason the Cards won their last five regular-season games. Caitlin Shadbolt (6'2" C) is the leading returner with 11.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. Farmington High School standout Briley Milfeld (5'9" G) is the only returning guard, and averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 rebounds as a freshman. LaShayla Bell (5'10" F) returns 6.1 points and 6.2 rebounds, while Sherry Glennie (6'2" C) put up 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds last season. The Cards will add experience with a solid PG via the transfer wire. Gretchen Gaskin (5'9" G) transfered from NCAA DI Seton Hall University after her freshman season. The Cardinals have signed seven freshmen for the 2008-09 season. Sarah Eagan (5'8" G) from South Shelby (Shelbina, MO), Kayla Tisza (5'9" G) Mother McAuley (Chicago, IL), Leola Hubbard (5'5" G) Caruthersville (MO), Karley Evans (5'9" G) from Rock Port (MO), Jessica McQuin (5'8" F) Brackenridge (San Antonio, TX), Lakia White (5'8" F) St. Louis, MO (Miller's Career Academy), and Katie Flanary (6'0" F) from Jefferson City (Holt's Summitt, MO) are all expected to make a quick transition from high school into the program.
(4/19) Lesley Adams signs National Letter of Intent to attend DI Southeast Missouri State University. The 6-2 power forward/center averaged 8.8 points per game, 1.2 steals per game and led the team in rebounding with 7.4 per game. She started in every game for the Cardinals over the past two seasons, earning 2007-08 First Team All Region XVI honors. Adams recorded five double-doubles in 2007-08 season including a 20 point 15 rebound game against Olney Central College. She scored a career-high 21 points on 8-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe while collecting 10 caroms against State Fair Community College. During her freshman season she averaged 7.4 ppg and a team-high 7.9 rpg. Adams played her prep ball at Career Academy in St. Louis. Press Release
(3/9) NJCAA All Region XVI selections include three Cardinals: Adams, Sands, and Fraser-Jones. Last month, three Cardinals were selected to the All-Conference team. The same three MAC players were selected by the Region Coaches for honors. Leandra Sands, a 5'5" guard, was named to the First Team. She averaged 9.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assist a game. Lesley Adams was also named to the All-Region XVI team. The 6'2" power forward/center led the team in rebounding at 7.4 a game, and averaged 8.8 points and 1.2 steals per game. Sarah Fraser-Jones earned All-Region honorable mention honors this season. Sarah averaged 6.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists per game.
(2/28) Three MAC Cardinals honored by MCCAC Conference Coaches. Leandra Sands was named to the First Team MCCAC All-Conference list this season. Sands, a 5'5" sophomore guard put up 9.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assist a game. Sarah Fraser-Jones earned second-team honors during her sophomore campaign. The Eastern Kentucky signee averaged 6.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists per contest. Lesley Adams was also named to the All-Conference second-team this season. The 6'2" post led the team in rebounding at 7.4 a game, and scored 8.8 and swiped 1.2 steals per game.

The Cardinals took a four point lead into the locker room at the half, and hung on for an impressive Region XVI road win that helped the Birds climb into a 3rd place tie in the Region standings.
