McCrary played for his father, Doug McCrary, at Belleville East (IL) High School, leading the team to a 21-9 record during his senior campaign (2006). Eric averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, leading the team in all 3 categories, and setting a single season assist record. He set the school career 3 point record, and was named All-Southwesten Conference (First Team), Illinois All-State (Honorable Mention), St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro (Honorable Mention), Belleville News Democrat All-Area (First Team), and was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Team. McCrary was named to several All-Tournament teams and helped lead the Lancers to a Illinois State Regional Championship, the Pattonville Tournament Championship, and the Collinsville Holiday Tournament Championship. "Eric is a versatile swing player that can stretch the defense with his range, rebound with the big boys, and sees the floor very well as a passer," commented MAC Assistant Coach Chad Kish.
