(4/21/16)  Kellion Williams signs with Central Methodist University.  Kellion Williams, a sophomore from Greenville, Mississippi has signed his letter of intent to play at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.  Central Methodist is a NAIA school.

(4/21/16)  Montell Goodwin signs with Eastern Illinois.  MAC sophomore Montell Goodwin has signed to play at Eastern Illinois University next season.  Montell was named to the NJCAA All American Honorable Mention Team this past season.  Goodwin averaged 12.9 points per game for MAC.  Eastern Illinois is a NCAA Division I school.

(4/21/16)  Daniel Norl signs with University of Nebraska-Omaha.  MAC sophomore Daniel Norl has signed a national letter of intent to continue his basketball career with The University of Nebraska-Omaha.  Norl played his freshman year at Eastern Kentucky and was a named to the MCCAC 1st-Team All Conference Team as well as the NJCAA Region 16 All-Region 1st-Team. Nebraska-Omaha is a NCAA Division I school. 

(4/8/16)  Montell Goodwin named All-American.  MAC sophomore Montell Goodwin has named to the 2015-2016 NJCAA All-American Team. Montell was named Honorable Mention. 

(3/1/16)  Mineral Area College Men’s Basketball Team Finishes the Season 25-6 and Ranked #18 in the Final NJCAA National Poll. The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team competed in the Region 16 tournament on Thursday, February 25th against State Fair.  The Cardinals were defeated by the Road Runners, losing by the score of 82-76.  The MAC Cardinals finished the season with a record of 25-6 and are ranked #18 in the latest NJCAA national poll.

(2/26/16)  Season ends in Region 16 Tournament.  MAC lost to State Fair last night in the semifinals of the Region 16 Tournament held in Joplin.  The final score was 82-76. 

With the loss, Mineral Area ends their season at 25-6.  In his first year, head coach Coach Luke Strege lead the team to a ranking as high as #9 in the country. 

Moberly defeated Three Rivers in the other semifinal and will play State Fair in the championship game tomorrow night.

(2/22/16)  Mineral Area College Men’s Basketball Team is Now 25-5 and Ranked #13 in the Latest NJCAA National Poll. The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team hosted St. Louis Community College on Thursday, February 18th.  The Cards won the game by the score of 81-72.  MAC then traveled to Sedalia, MO to take on State Fair for the final game of the regular season.  The Cardinals lost to the Roadrunners by the score of 84-69.  The MAC Cardinals men’s basketball team now has a record of 25-5 on the season and are ranked #13 in the latest NJCAA national poll.

The MAC men’s basketball team will participate in the Region 16 tournament in Joplin, MO on Thursday, February 25th.  The Cards are the #2 seed in the tournament.  MAC will play the #3 seed State Fair at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Ozark Christian College in Joplin.

(2/16/16)  MAC falls to Three Rivers in Region 16 contest.  The MAC basketball team lost to Three Rivers on Saturday by the score of 87-68.  The men had won seven straight games before this loss. 

With the loss, Mineral Area will be the #2 seed in the upcoming Region 16 Tournament.  The Cardinals are 24-4 overall and 6-2 in the Region.

(2/4/16)  Cardinals win again, defeat Moberly in Region 16 contest.  Mineral Area defeated Moberly last night at the Bob Sechrest Field House by the score of 82-58.  They are now tied with Three Rivers for first place in the Region 16 standings.  MAC is 24-3 overall and currently ranked 9th in the latest NJCCA National Poll.  Up next for the Cardinals is a pivotal matchup with rival Three Rivers.  The game will take place on Saturday, February 13th in Poplar Bluff, MO at 7:00 pm.

(1/28/16)  Men defeat West Plains in Region 16 game.  The MAC men's basketball team defeated West Plains last night, at home, by the score of 76-69.  The Cardinals have won six in a row and improve to 24-3 overall.  They will take on Moberly next Wednesday, at home, at 7:00 p.m.

(1/19/16) Mineral Area College men’s basketball team is now 21-3 and ranked #22 in the latest NJCAA national poll. MAC traveled to Moberly, MO to take on the Moberly Greyhounds.  The Cards defeated Moberly 58-56.  The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team has a record of 21-3 on the season and are ranked #22 in the latest NJCAA national poll.

(1/14/16)  Men travel to Parkland to earn 20th win.  The MAC men's basketball team went to Parkland Community College last night and defeated the Cobras 80-69.  This marks the program's 20th win under first year head coach Luke Strege.  The Cardinals are now 20-3 overall and ranked 22nd in the latest NJCAA national poll.

MAC will play at Moberly, on Saturday, immediately following the women's game.

(1/7/16)  Cardinals defeat Lincoln College, now 17-3.  MAC won a road game last night in Lincoln, Illinois by the score of 87-56.  They will play on the road against MSU-West Plains on Saturday, January 9th. 

The Cardinals will take on State Fair on Saturday, January 23rd at 7:00 as a part of the college's annual Homecoming.

(12/14/15) Mineral Area College Men’s Basketball Team is Now 13-1 and Ranked 17th in Nation. The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team traveled to Chicago, IL on Wednesday, December 9th to take on Kennedy-Kings.  The Cards won the game 68-52.  MAC then hosted North Central in the annual St. Francois County Rotary Shootout.  The Cardinals defeated North Central 99-68.  Prior to the North Central game, three new members were added to the St. Francois County/Mineral Area College Hall of Fame.  Sonny Parker, Bill Bradley and Tim Gray were inducted to the Hall of Fame, joining Coach Bob Sechrest and Hal Loughary. 

The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team now has a record of 13-1 and are ranked 17th in the latest NJCAA national poll.

(11/30/15) Cardinals now 8-1 after two big wins in Iowa. The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team traveled to Norfolk, Nebraska on Friday, November 27th to participate in the Northeast Community College Classic.  The Cardinals defeated the host school on Friday evening, beating Northeast Nebraska 102-92.  MAC then faced nationally ranked Iowa Western on Saturday, November 28th.  The Cards won that game as well, winning by the score of 83-80.  The MAC Cardinal men’s basketball team now has a record of 8-1 on the season.

They will host Link Year Prep out of Branson, MO on Thursday, December 3rd.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  The Cardinals will then host Daley College out of Chicago on Saturday, December 5th.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.  The Cardinals will wrap up their week by playing Lewis and Clark in the St. Louis Showcase on Sunday, December 6th.  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

(11/16/15)  Cardinals go 2-0 in Bob Sechrest Classic. MAC hosted the annual Bob Sechrest Classic on Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th.  The Cardinals defeated Kennedy King on Friday by the score of 86-59.  MAC won Saturday’s game as well, defeating Lake Land 89-68.  The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team now has a record of 6-1 on the season.

(11/10/15) Mineral Area defeats SWIC in home contest.  The MAC Men's basketball team had a big offensive night defeating the Southwestern Illinois Blue Storm 108-87.  Montell Goodwin lead the way for the Cardinals with 19 points.  MAC is now 4-1 overall.  Mineral Area will host Kennedy-King on Friday and Lake Land on Saturday in the Bob Sechrest Classic.

(11/4/15)  MAC picks up road victory at Lewis & Clark.  Mineral Area continued its good start by defeating the Trailblazers 78-55.  They will play against #22 John A. Logan at 3:00 on Saturday at home. 

(11/2/15)  Cardinals go 2-0 in Three Rivers Tip-Off Classic. The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team participated in the Three Rivers Classic on Friday and Saturday to kick of their regular season.  The Cardinals defeated Olive-Harvey 91-65 on Friday night.  MAC then beat North American University JV 135-65 on Saturday evening.  The MAC Cardinal men’s basketball team now has a record of 2-0 on the season.

(10/26/15)  Men's team to kick off their season Friday.  The MAC men’s basketball team will kick off their season on Friday, October 30th and Saturday, October 31st as they participate in the Three Rivers Classic in Poplar Bluff.  The Cardinals will play Olive Harvey on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and North American University JV on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

(10/19/15) MAC men continue their scrimmage season.  The Mineral Area College men’s basketball team played Wabash Valley in a scrimmage at UMSL on Saturday, October 17th.  The results were not known at the time of the press release. The MAC men’s basketball team will travel to Fort Leonard Wood, MO on Wednesday, October 21st.  The Cardinals will scrimmage Missouri Baptist.  MAC will then participate in the John Wood Jamboree in Quincy, IL on Saturday, October 24th.

(9/28/15) Midnight Madness- Tuesday, October 13th at the Bob Sechrest Field House. There will be tailgating with free hot dogs and soda in front of the Bob Sechrest Field House for the MAC student-athletes and the entire community.  The tailgate starts at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13th.  The MAC volleyball game against MSU-West Plains will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Midnight Madness will follow the volleyball game.  This will be the first look at the women’s and men’s basketball teams.  There will be a 3 point shootout as well as a slam dunk competition.  Pizza will also be provided.  Someone will get a chance to win free tuition hours for the spring semester.  We will also have our 2nd hour Courtside Couch drawing for Homecoming.

(9/18/15)  Men's basketball players participate in reading program.  The Mineral Area Men's basketball team recently went out and participated in the a reading program to benefit some of our local schools.  Below are some pictures from the first day of the event.

Diallo and his teammates were at the school to promote the team's reading program. Students participating in the program will receive a ticket for the first home game of the season.

(6/11/15)  Mineral Area College hires Luke Strege as Men's Basketball Coach. 

The Mineral Area College Board of Trustees on June 11 approved the hiring of Luke Strege (pronounced STREGG-ee) to the coaching position of the men’s basketball program. The position was vacated this summer when Corey Tate joined MU’s basketball program as assistant coach.

Strege will be the fourth coach in the history of the program. He comes to the Park Hills, Mo., community college having finished his fifth season as the assistant men’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Eastern Kentucky University.  While at Eastern Kentucky, Strege helped guide the Colonels to an Ohio Valley Conference Championship in 2014 and a berth to the NCAA National Tournament.  Eastern Kentucky’s 49 wins from 2012-2014 are the most during any two-year period in program history.

 Before arriving at Eastern, Strege served six years on the staff at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill.  In 2009-2010, Strege helped the Hawks finish 23-9 overall while climbing to as high as #10 in the Division II national polls.  Quincy earned a spot in the 2010 NCAA Division II Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.  In 2007-2008, Strege was promoted to Quincy’s associate head coach.  In Strege’s six seasons at Quincy, the Hawks posted six consecutive winning seasons and advanced to four NCAA Division II Tournaments. Strege began his collegiate coaching career in 2000-2001 as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia.  He then spent two more years as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky University (2001-2003).  Before moving to Quincy, Strege served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Towson University in Baltimore in 2003-2004.   

Mineral Area College Athletic Director Chad Mills said he and others are “thrilled” to have Strege on board.  “Luke brings fifteen years of experience at the Division I and Division II level,” Mills said. “More than his ability to coach, we’re excited about the high character that Luke brings to MAC.  He is a great family man and he will do an outstanding job of representing both the community and the college.” Strege graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1999 with bachelor’s degree in marketing.  He and his wife Christine, are proud parents of Mason, Griffin, and Jaxon.

(5/6/15) Corey Tate to join Mizzou Men's Basketball.  Corey Tate has resigned as Head Basketball Coach at Mineral Area College.  He was officially named to the Mizzou Men's Basketball coaching staff today. Here is the press release:

Coach Corey Tate has announced his resignation from the Head Men’s Basketball position at Mineral Area College.  He has been named as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Missouri.  “We are extremely happy for Coach Tate and this wonderful opportunity for him to coach at the University of Missouri.  We are also very appreciative and grateful of all that Corey was able to accomplish as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Mineral Area College,” stated Athletic Director Chad Mills. “Coach Tate achieved wonderful success as our Head Men’s Basketball Coach.  He was extremely successful in not only winning championships here, but also in demonstrating excellent leadership and character to our student-athletes,” added Mills.

 Corey Tate just completed his 11th season at the helm of the Mineral Area College basketball program. Corey’s career record at MAC is 224-121.  Coach Tate won 6 MCCAC Confer­ence titles as well as 3 Region 16 titles in his tenure at MAC. This past season, MAC finished with a record 27-4 and won the Region 16 Title as well as clinching the MCCAC Conference title. The Cardinals also won the District 4 Championship, and finished their season at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. 

Corey Tate is one of the two Pattonville High School (St. Louis, MO) basketball players to have his jersey retired. He began his college playing career at Mineral Area College in 1994, where he was an All-Conference and All-Region player. Tate was touted as a pre-season All-American in 1995, but missed the season due to a leg injury. He transferred to the University of Missouri and had three successful seasons playing under legendary coach Norm Stewart. Tate graduated with a Bachelor’s in Economics and spent a season on the coaching staff as a Graduate Assistant at Missouri.  Corey returned to coaching and spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach at Mineral Area, and he is only the third head coach in the program’s history. Corey is also the head coach of the highly regarded St. Louis Eagles AAU basketball team.
