(5/6/10)  Head Coach Corey Tate releases summer basketball camp information.

Mineral Area head basketball coach Corey Tate will run a 4 day instructional camp this summer.   The camp will be held in the Sechrest Field House at Mineral Area College on June 21-24, 2010 (Mon–Thurs) from 9:00am to 3:00pm.  Lunch is provided daily for all campers.  Click on link for more information:

(3/3/10)  Cardinals go on the road to advance in Region XVI Tournament.  The Mineral Area College Basketball team got a huge win last night on the road in the Region XVI Tournament.  MAC defeated MSU-West Plains down in West Plains by the score of 69-58.  The win sets up an exciting night of basketball on Friday at Jefferson College.  MAC will play Moberly at 6:00 P.M. followed by Three Rivers against State Fair.  The winners will play in the Region XVI Championship game, Saturday night at 7:00 P.M.

(3/1/10)  Hoop Dreams star to promote new movie at Mineral Area College. Arthur Agee, former Mineral Area College basketball player and star of the movie "Hoop Dreams" will be on campus this month.  The Arthur Agee Jr Role Model Foundation and Classic Hoop Dreams Sportswear have teamed up to present a meet and greet and screening of Arthur's new movie "Hoop Reality" that will take place on campus in the MAC theater March 19th at 7:00 P.M.   The cost is $5.00 to attend.

(3/1/10) Cardinals win final regular season game against State Fair.  The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team won their final regular season and Region XVI regular season game this past Saturday down in Sedalia, Missouri.   Sophomore Kaleb Wright had 25 points to help lead the Cardinals (19-11) to the 71-56 road victory.   The Cardinals will now play in the Region XVI tournament as the #5 seed.  They will play Tuesday, March 2nd as the #5  seed against West Plains at 7:00 P.M.

NJCAA REGION XVI MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

(2/26/10)  Guyton named to All-Region XVI Team.  MAC Sophomore Carlton Guyton has been named to the 2009-2010 All-Region Team.  Guyton has had a terrific sophomore season garnering both All-Conference and All-Region honors. 

Karron Johnson was named Player of the Year in the Region XVI as voted by the coaches.  The other members of the team included Marquise Carter - Three Rivers; Justyn Watkins - State Fair; Antwaun Boyd - Moberly; Aloysius Henry - Three Rivers; Gage Wooten - Missouri State University-West Plains; Nick Niemczyk - Three Rivers; Clifton Fleming - State Fair; Jerret Towns - Moberly.

(2/23/10) Three players earn named to MCCAC All-Conference 1st Team. The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team had three players named to the 2009-2010 MCCAC All-Conference 1st Team:

Carlton Guyton a 6'4" sophomore guard from Rich South High School in Chicago, Illinois was named 1st Team All-Conference.   Guyton is averaging a team leading 14.6 points per game and has signed a letter of intent to play at Division I Kent State University.

Al Rapier a 6'6" sophomore forward from Perspectives Academy in Chicago, Illinois was named 1st Team All-Conference.  Al has signed to play at Division I Stony Brook University in New York next year.

Riley Raulston a 6'4" freshman guard from Poplar Bluff High School in Poplar Bluff, Missouri was named 1st Team All-Conference.   Riley averaged 8.7 points per game for the MCCAC Conference Champion Cardinals.

(2/22/10)  MAC defeats Three Rivers on Homecoming Night.  The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team notched a MCCAC and Region XVI victory over Three Rivers on Saturday night. The Cardinals went on a 13-1 run in the 2nd half to pull away with a 66-61 victory in front of a capacity crowd at the Bob Sechrest Field House. Kent State signee Carlton Guyton led the Cardinals with 21 points for MAC.  Reigning Region XVI player of the year Marquise Carter led the 23rd ranked Raiders (22-6) with 21 as well. 

With the win the Cardinals clinched their 12th MCCAC Conference Championship and their 4th under Corey Tate.  Mineral Area also won conference championships in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Mineral Area (18-11) will now finish their regular season on Saturday with a road game against State Fair.

(2/17/10)  Men's Basketball plays archrival Three Rivers on Saturday. The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team will play a road conference game against Forest Park on Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M.  On Saturday, the Cardinals

(17-10) will play archrival Three Rivers as a part of the Homecoming Activities at 7:00 P.M. at the Bob Sechrest Field House.  Three Rivers (21-5) defeated Mineral Area in Poplar Bluff earlier in the season. 

(2/12/10)  MAC has impressive start to weekend trip.  The Cardinals won a tough road game last night by beating Southeastern Iowa in Burlington, Iowa by the score of 70-67.  Southeastern Iowa was ranked # 18 in the country as recently as last week and has a very strong basketball tradition winning the 2000, 2003 and 2004 National Championships. Carlton Guyton led the Cardinals with 20 points.  The Cardinals (17-9) will now play a Region XVI game at Moberly (20-5) on Saturday night.

(2/9/10)  Men's Basketball faces challenging week ahead.  The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team will will try and get back on the winning track with two tough road games this week.  Mineral Area will travel to Burlington, Iowa to take on #18 Southeastern Iowa Thursday night at 7:00 P.M.  They will play Moberly in a Region XVI road game on Saturday night at 7:00 in Moberly.  The Greyhounds are currently in 1st place in the Region XVI and are 20-5 overall. 

(2/4/10) Cardinals fall in Double Overtime to Region XVI rival West Plains.  Freshman guard Chris Mason from West Plains scored 10 of his game high 20 points in the final 10 minutes to help the West Plains Grizzlies to a 79-77 double overtime victory over MAC Wednesday night at the Bob Sechrest Field House. The Grizzlies (19-5) sweep the season series after winning the first game 70-63 earlier in the season down in West Plains.  Demetrius Harris had 17 points for the Cardinals (16-8) who will look to rebound with victory at Vincennes on Saturday night at 7:00 P.M.

(2/1/10) Men's basketball gets back to winning ways with victory over State Fair

Mineral Area came away with a 81-67 home win over State Fair (16-7) out of Sedalia, MO.  Riley Raulston led MAC with 21 points and the Cardinals went on a 16-3 run in the 2nd half.  With the much need Region XVI win, the Cardinals improve to 16-7 overall. MAC will now be in action on Wednesday night against MSU-West Plains at home at the Bob Sechrest Field House.

(1/28/10) Cardinals come up short at Southwestern Illinois. The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team suffered a road loss last night to # 25 Southwestern Illinois College out of Belleville, IL. SWIC had beaten the Cardinals at home earlier in the year by 2 and defeated MAC this time by 3, by the score of 59-56.  Mineral Area (15-7) will now play at home on Saturday night at 7:00 against State Fair (15-6).

(1/25/10) Moberly hands Cardinals rare home loss. Men's basketball had won 10 consecutive home games before Saturday night's 70-69 home loss to the Moberly Greyhounds.  Moberly (17-3) was up 10 before a late rally made the game close.  The Cardinals had two opportunities in the final seconds to win the game but couldn't convert as the Greyhounds gained an important Region XVI win.  Drew Thomas led MAC with 15 points.  Mineral Area (15-6) will now play Southwestern Illinois on Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M.

(1/21/10) Mineral Area hits 16 three's to run away with MCCAC win.  Riley Raulston and Drew Thomas had 20 points each as Mineral Area defeated Meramec 90-66 on Wednesday night at the Bob Sechrest Field House.  The Cardinals (15-5) will now play Moberly at home on Saturday night.  The Greyhounds will be making their first appearance at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse under the direction of Jay Spoonhour (son of SMSU, SLU, and UNLV coach Charlie Spoonhour).  Central High School, coached by MAC alum Zack Mills, squares off with West County High School, coached by MAC alum Chad Mills, at 3:15 before the Moberly doubleheader.  Anyone from the Central or West County school district (all residents) can enjoy the entire evening of basketball free of charge.

(1/19/10)  MAC suffers road loss against Region XVI West Plains The Mineral Area Men's basketball team struggled early offensively taking a 70-63 road loss at West Plains (17-3)  The Cardinals trailed the Grizzlies 29-19 at the half and were able to score 44 second half points in order to close the gap, but it wasn't enough as West Plains was able to put the game away late with some pivotal 3 point shots by Quinton Pippen.  The Cardinals (14-5) were led by Riley Raulston who had 16 points and Martell Anderson with 11.  MAC will now be in action on Wednesday at home, against Meramec, at 7:00 P.M.

(1/14/10) Cardinals win 10th consecutive home game.  The Mineral Area Men's basketball team got a key MCCAC home victory on Wednesday against Florissant Valley.  The Cardinals dominated from beginning to end to score the impressive 96-49 win.  MAC (14-4) will travel to West Plains for a road game on Saturday that starts at 7:00 P.M.

(1/11/10) Men’s basketball dropped an 84-56 decision to #20 Three Rivers in Poplar Bluff.   They play the finale of the Flo Valley doubleheader at 7:30 on Wednesday.  They travel to West Plains on Saturday for their second Region 16 battle with MSU-West Plains at 7:00.

(1/4/10)  Men's Basketball plays rival Three Rivers on Saturday. The Mineral Area Men's basketball team plays a key MCCAC conference and Region XVI game in Poplar Bluff at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday night.  The Cardinals (13-3) had won 11 games in a row before falling to Indian Hills over the Holiday Break.  Three Rivers (12-3) is currently ranked 7th in the latest NJCAA Poll.

(12/9/09)  The Rotary Shootout takes place this weekend at the Bob Sechrest Field House. The long standing tradition of the Rotary Shootout will take place on Saturday at MAC.   It is a charity event that benefits the Rotary Club at a $5 cost to attend all 5 games.  The schedule is as follows:

(12/8/09) Cardinals get another win over a ranked team and move win streak to eight.  The men's basketball team has won 8 consecutive games to move its record to 10-2.  The Cardinals defeated #22 John A. Logan last night at home by the score of 75-60.  Bobby Peebles had a big night for the Cardinals with 16 points and 6 assists.  The Cardinals will be in action on Saturday at 7:00 against Truman at the Bob Sechrest Field house as a part of the Rotary Tournament.

(12/7/09)  Men's Basketball team runs win streak to seven. The Mineral Area Men's basketball team scored another impressive victory on Saturday night defeating Kaskaskia 85-60.  The Cardinals will now look to make it 8 straight with a victory tonight against #22 John A. Logan at 7:00 at the Bob Sechrest Field House.

(12/3/09)  Men's basketball team gets another home victory.  The Mineral Area Men's basketball team ran their win streak to 6 on Wednesday with 88-61 victory over Southwest Tennessee.  The Cardinals (8-2) had 12 different players score as the Cardinals held a comfortable lead most of the game after accumulating a 46-23 half-time advantage. Mineral Area bounced back from last year's 104-98 road loss down in Memphis.  The Cardinals return to action Saturday night at home against Kaskaskia.

(11/30/09) MAC runs win streak to 5 after sweeping Thanksgiving Classic.  Men's Basketball continued their winning ways with successive victories over 23rd ranked Lincoln Trail on Friday night and an exciting come from behind win against Malcolm X on Saturday.  The two wins were a part of the annual 4 team MAC Thanksgiving Classic held each year at the Bob Sechrest Field House.

The Cardinals had a tough matchup on Friday playing pre-season # 23 Lincoln Trail who was 5-2 on the season.  The Cardinals jumped out to a big 37-25 lead in the 1st half to come away with the 77-63 home victory.  Freshman Drew Thomas led MAC with 21 points and Kaleb Wright added 19.

MAC had a dramatic come from behind win late in the 2nd half to knock off Malcolm X of Chicago.  The Cardinals were down 60-49 with just over three minutes to go in the 2nd half before closing the game out on a 16-0 run to stun the Hawks with a 65-60 victory.  Carlton Guyton led MAC with 16 points and Kaleb Wright added 12.

(11/23/09)  Cardinals go 2-0 in Bob Sechrest Classic. The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team scored two impressive wins this past weekend beating Region 4 power Kennedy King 79-58 on Friday night and winning a double overtime game against 3 time National Champion and 21st ranked Indian Hills 68-64 on Saturday night. 

Friday, the Cardinals (5-2) were led by Carlton Guyton's big night with 28 points.  They went on a 14-2 run in the 2nd half before ultimately coming away with a 21 point victory.

On Saturday, the Cardinals and Indian Hills (5-2) played a double overtime thriller.  The Cardinals were able to go 13 of 20 from the free throw line in a tough, physical contest in order to gain the 68-64 victory.

(11/19/09)  Men's Basketball gets key Conference win over Lewis & Clark.

Demetrius Harris scored from close range with 2.8 seconds left in the game to give the Cardinals a 64-63 conference victory over the nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Trailblazers last night at the Bob Sechrest Field House.  Mineral Area led after a low scoring first half 24-20, but both teams nearly doubled their scoring in the 2nd half as the Trailblazers outscored MAC 43-40. This was the 1st conference game for MAC (3-2) and Lewis & Clark (4-1) on the season.  Kent State signee Carlton Guyton led the Cardinals with 17 points while Harris added 13.

(11/16/09)  Mineral Area College will host the Bob Sechrest Classic this weekend.  The Bob Sechrest Classic will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Bob Sechrest Field House.  This years event has one of the strongest fields in the event's history and should be one of the strongest JUCO Classic's in the nation. Participants includes #4 Three Rivers, 3-time National Champion

# 21 Indian Hills, and perennial Region 4 power Kennedy King.  The schedule is as follows:

(11/11/09) Mineral Area Sophomore Al Rapier will play at Division I Stony Brook

Al Rapier a 6'6" forward from Chicago, IL (Perspectives Charter Academy) has committed to play for the Stony Brook Seawolves out of the American East Conference. 

Rapier was an All-Conference selection (Blue West) in 2008, averaging 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 assist a contest for Perspectives Charter Academy. Rapier's solid double-double average also garnered him Illinois All-State honors in 2008.

(11/11/09)  MAC Sophomore Carlton Guyton has committed to play at Division I Kent State.  Carlton Guyton a 6' 4" guard from Chicago, IL (Rich South) will play in the Mid-American Conference next year for the Kent State Golden Flashes.  The Ohio school has had a strong history of success competing in 5 out of the last 11 NCAA Tournament's and recording 10 consecutive 20 win seasons before winning 19 last year. 

Carlton had offers from Drake and Loyola, but he was also receiving heavy interest from Illinois St., UAB, UNC-Greensboro, and Cal State Northridge.

(11/11/09) 6th ranked Southwestern Illinois slips by MAC

The Mineral Area Men's Basketball team was unable to put a close game away in the last minutes and SWIC (3-1) won their third consecutive game in 3 years at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.  The Cardinals were up 2 points with about a minute to play but the Blue Storm scored the last 4 points of the game to come out with a 68-66 victory. 

The Cardinals (2-2) will be be in action next Wednesday as a part of a Men's and Women's doubleheader with Lewis and Clark.

(11/9/09) Men's Basketball gets two big wins at Three Rivers Tip-Off Classic

MAC scored two decisive wins in Poplar Bluff this weekend defeating Southeastern Illinois 79-59 on Friday and Arkansas Baptist 81-65 on Saturday.

Mineral Area used solid defense in the second half Friday to turn a close game into a 25 point lead and ultimately a 20 point win over the Falcons from Southeastern Illinois. 

The Cardinals (2-1) came back on Saturday to defeat Arkansas Baptist who is coached by former Arkansas Razorback and NBA star Corliss Williamson.  The Cardinals defeated the Buffaloes 81-65.  MAC will now face #6 Southwestern Illinois College at home on Tuesday night immediately following the Women's game which starts at 5:30

(11/5/09) Cardinals have 3rd toughest schedule in the nation. The JUCO Classic News Service has ranked the Mineral Area men's basketball schedule as the 3rd toughest in the nation.  Southern Idaho has the toughest. The Cardinals have 7 games against ranked Division I opponents and 2 against ranked Division II teams.

(11/4/09)  Basketball falls to #27 John A. Logan.  The Men's basketball team started the season with a tough road loss last night in Carterville, IL against a ranked opponent.  The Cardinals (0-1) started the game slowly falling behind 7-0 in the early minutes but fought their way back to take a 66-63 lead in the 2nd half on a Riley Raulston 3-pointer with 3:15 remaining.  The Volunteers (1-0) recaptured the lead and hit crucial free throws down the stretch, going 11 of 12 overall from the line to seal the 77-74 victory. 


Raulston led the team with 16 points and Drew Thomas added 12 points and returning sophomore Carlton Guyton finished with 11 .  The Cardinals will look to bounce back down at Poplar Bluff against Southeastern Illinois at the Three Rivers Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening.  Daily Journal Article.

(10/23/09) Men's Basketball starts season on the road.  The MAC Men's basketball team will open up their regular season in Carterville, IL to play

#27 John A. Logan on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 P.M.  The Cardinals defeated the Vols 83-72 last year at MAC.

They travel to Three Rivers on Friday to take on Southeastern Illinois CC at 5:00 and on Saturday they return to the Bess Activity Center to play Arkansas Baptist at 5:00.  The Cards home opener is Tuesday, November 10 vs. preseason #6 Southwestern Illinois Community College at 7:30 in the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.

(10/13/09) Men's Basketball continues their Pre-Season schedule this week.  The Mineral Area Cardinals Men's Basketball team will travel to Lebanon, IL to take on McKendree University on Wednesday at 7:00.  Then, on Saturday they travel to Southern Indiana University for the Rick Ball Jamboree.

(10/12/09)  Midnight Madness will take place Thursday, October 22nd.

Midnight Madness 2009 will take place at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse starting immediately after the Women's volleyball game with West Plains at 6:30.  The introduction of both the Men's and Women's Basketball team's will start at 8:15. Midnight Madness will include a Slam Dunk Contest and a 3-Point Shooting Contest.  At 9:00 there will be activities and prizes for the fans. Click here for flyer:

The Cardinals travel to Three Rivers on Saturday to open their preseason scrimmage schedule.  They play the Raiders at 10:00 am and Lindenwood University at 11:45.
