PARK HILLS, Mo. – Mineral Area College will be offering a spring tour of Italy, May 29-June 6, 2010.
Jerry Walters will host the trip. Walters, who retired from full-time teaching at MAC only recently, has taught art at the college and sold his artwork professionally for decades. He has led MAC-sponsored tours since 1981.
An informational meeting for the MAC Spring 2010 Italy Tour will be held at 6:30 p.m., Dec. 1, Rm. AS109 at Mineral Area College in Park Hills. The tour will be nine days, and will include roundtrip airfare, transfers, tour bus with guide, superior hotels, daily breakfast buffet and several dinners, at a cost of $3,500. The trip is open to anyone. Participants may receive 2 hours of college credit by enrolling in History of Western Art through MAC.
For further details, contact Jerry Walters at jerry@MineralArea.edu.
Walters’ latest planned itinerary shows Italy’s most famous cities and landmarks-- from St. Peter’s, the Sistine Chapel and the Colosseum in Rome; to Michelangelo’s David in Florence; to St. Mark’s Basilica, Doges’ Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs in Venice. Local guides in these cities will answer all questions during the tours.
The trip also includes a welcome dinner with wine in a Roman restaurant, as well as stops in Pisa to admire the Leaning Tower, and Romeo and Juliet’s Verona to see the famous balcony. Scenic vistas will be seen along the Tyrrhenian coast, through Lombardi, by the Po River, on the wooded Etruscan Apennine mountain range, and Tuscany’s Cianti wine country. In Venice, a private boat ride and glassblowing demonstration are included.
