(PARK HILLS) -- The perils of parenting in today’s society will be explored during Mineral Area College Little Theater Guild’s stage production of the black comedy, “God of Carnage.”

The show’s three-night performance, June 21-23, begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at MAC’s bookstore or at the door before the performances.

The play’s backstory involves two 11-year-old boys who get into an argument over whether or not one of them will allow the other into his “gang.” The rejected boy knocks out the gang-leader’s teeth with a stick. That night, the four parents of the two boys agree to meet, talk over the situation and decide what actions to take.

The parents are from different walks of life, however, with different attitudes and ideas on child-rearing and life in general. Their conversation quickly devolves and their behavior regresses into an irrationality that almost mirrors their kids’ earlier fracas. As the night progresses, the question becomes: How will the parents figure out how to refrain from knocking each other’s teeth out with sticks?

Theatre Director Chuck Gallaher said he chose the play because it reflects many of the challenges parents face when raising their kids in today’s society.

“This production will be thought-provoking on a variety of levels,” he said. “It doesn’t matter whether you have kids or not, everyone’s been parented at some point in their life, and everyone will recognize something of their childhood, something of their parents, even something of their kids in this performance.”

The cast includes:

Alan - Sam Gallaher* - Farmington, MO
Michael - Ben Trueblood - Potosi, MO
Veronica - Christina Stenger, Farmington, MO
Annette - Grace Gilliam* - Farmington, MO
