Now in its 96th year, Mineral Area College is looking for public input on its latest strategic plan, which will be effective for the years 2018-2023. The college will hold community forums to solicit input in its taxing district, but anyone from the Southeast Missouri region with an interest in MAC is welcome to attend during this period of public commentary.

The public is encouraged to attend any of the three community forums: two will be held at the North College Center on the community college’s Park Hills campus at 3:30 pm on Monday, April 16 and at 6 pm on Monday, April 23; Another forum will be held at the Mineral Area College Fredericktown Outreach Center in Room 116 on April 19 at 3:30 pm.

Pam Watkins, who also coordinates continuing education and writes grants for the college, is organizing the community forums. She says the strategic plan will identify key areas in which the college strives to make significant improvements within a five-year period.

“The development process includes an environmental scan and internal scrutiny, as well as feedback and input from employees, students and the community served by the college,” she said. “But I can’t stress enough how important it is to get citizens’ feedback on how we’re serving our patrons. Ultimately, we’re here to make our community stronger through higher education, and we need our community’s support to fulfill our mission.”

MAC also updates its mission, from time to time. Currently, the formally-stated mission is “to serve the community, to provide students a quality, affordable education, and to offer opportunities for professional and personal development in a safe, professional environment.” Watkins said she hopes this will be the basis for the feedback received during the community forums.
