Your Support Is Invaluable

For over 20 years, Mineral Area College Foundation contributions have augmented the college’s teaching and learning environment. With support from alumni, businesses and friends of the college, the Foundation-funded projects have enhanced campus facilities and provided additional resources to assure first-rate, affordable educational opportunities to assist area residents attain their educational goals.

Without external funding sources, the Foundation’s success could not be accomplished. An example is the Endowment Challenge Campaign, the Foundation’s flagship campaign in 1989, which received financial support from hundreds of alumni, community members, employees and businesses in our region. Their combined resources raised $284,768 locally to earn a $250,000 U.S. Department of Education matching grant. Mineral Area College students, employees, and the community have directly benefited from over 250 Endowment Challenge-funded employee projects totaling approximately $200,000. Today, the Endowment Challenge corpus exceeds $800,000.

The Foundation Board of Directors thanks every donor for past generosity and for selecting Mineral Area College Foundation as the recipient of charitable gifts. Continued support is essential to provide affordable, comprehensive and accessible higher learning to serve the needs of our region’s students, businesses and community members.

Charitable gifts are as individual as those who make them. Gift-giving is an incredibly rewarding decision with many far-reaching tangible and intangible benefits for individual students and our entire community. The Annual Fund Campaign Options

The need for Scholarship: "Without a Scholarship, I could not attend college.

Quality education is a longstanding tradition at Mineral Area College, dating back to 1922 with the formation of Flat River Junior College, For 84 years, our college has been committed to providing our students with a strong foundation for future success and improving the quality of life in the surrounding communities. Keeping students at the forefront of all MAC's efforts reflects an investment in our local communities, tomorrow's leaders, and our nation's overall well-being.

Mineral Area College Foundation's fundraising campaign focuses on the power of scholarship to change lives. The need for private scholarship support to deserving students is increasing. Most MAC students are from middle-income families, work part-time, and view affordability as a critical component for a college choice. Approximately three-fourths of MAC students rely heavily on financial aid to meet their college expenses.

Your gift to the endowed scholarship funds ensures:

        * students access to a college degree

        * life-changing experiences for students and their families

        * reduced long-term debt for students

        * a legacy of education for generations to come

t MAC Foundation Scholarship Fund Nearly 75 - 80 percent of current MAC students rely on some financial aid to finance their educational goals. The average full-time student receives approximately $3500 annually in financial aid. As tuition and education-related expenses escalate, the students’ financial burdens increase. The gift of scholarship is a catalyst to assist students remain in college and achieve their educational goals.

tFRJC Scholarship Fund Let’s keep the spirit of Flat River Junior College alive! The FRJC Scholarship honors the 1922-1965 FRJC alumni, employees, and trustees who crafted the FRJC legacy of quality, affordable education and designed a blueprint for Mineral Area College’s success. This scholarship keeps FRJC viable for the future MAC students who are financial aid recipients.

Jeff Nicholas, a General Biology student in Fredericktown, uses new microscopes at the Fredericktown Center. The Tee Off For MAC Foundation golf tournament profits funded thirteen projects at all the campus locations.

Other Gift-Giving Opportunities

The Annual Fund Campaign is just one method to contribute to Mineral Area College Foundation. The Foundation is ready to assist any individual or business interested in funding specific projects, memorial gifts, endowed chairs, scholarships or other gifts of interest to donors. Gift-giving opportunities range from a book in the library to underwriting the costs associated with room renovations to special equipment purchases to endowing a chair or naming a building or space on campus. Call the Foundation staff to discuss a variety of giving plans or your specific area of interest.

Outright gifts are contributions that can be put to use immediately upon receipt by the Foundation. Gifts include cash, securities, real estate or personal property.

Pledged gifts can be discussed and planned with the assistance of a MAC Foundation Board member.

Employer matching gifts channel corporate support to Mineral Area College. They are company-donated contributions that match contributions made by their employees, thereby doubling or tripling the gift’s value. Many corporations and employers provide matches when employees or retirees make gifts to the Foundation. Please contact your employer to learn whether it offers a matching gift. MAC Foundation will complete the necessary paperwork to secure the matching gift.

Memorial, honorarium, and tribute gifts celebrate or honor the life and contributions of family members, graduates, faculty or friends who deeply valued Flat River Junior College, Mineral Area College, education and community service.

Planned giving designates gifts which name MAC Foundation as the beneficiary in a will, trust, life insurance policy, annuity or real estate gift. The Foundation, a tax consultant or an attorney can assist with a planned gift.

Endowed funds can be earmarked for a specific existing campus purpose or a new endowed fund. Scholarship funds and faculty chairs are examples of how endowed gifts can be used. Generally the gift’s corpus remains in tact and a portion of the annual earnings are distributed. For endowed gifts, the fund can be personalized in memory of or to honor the individual(s).

Other gifts of interest to donors, such as property and equipment, can be discussed with Foundation Board members to determine their usefulness for the campus mission and programs.
