Creating a Show

This is a step-by-step walk thru on creating a show. It also contains directions on adding transitions (how one slide changes to the next), animations (how text and pics 'come in' and 'exit' during the show), and how to insert song's and videos.
- Open PowerPoint
- Click ‘Design’ Tab
- In Themes group, rest mouse on different buttons for live preview
- Click More button in Themes Group for extra choices
- Click left on theme button to select
- If desired:
- Click Colors or Fonts button (top, right of Themes Group)
- Rest mouse on each for preview
- Click left to select
- Click ‘Home’ Tab, Slides Group, click layout button.
- Select your first slide layout by clicking left on it. Usually the first slide will be a title slide.
- Follow the prompts to create your first slide.
- Click “New slide” button (Home Tab, Slides Group)
- Click left to select desired layout, then follow prompts to create slide
- Content Layouts:
- Once selected, the tiny little icons will let you choose to insert pictures, tables, charts, etc
- Check options in ‘Search in’ and ‘Results should be’ by clicking down triangle
- I suggest that you specify a search string, and then click it to insert it
- Continue with Steps 5 & 6 until your presentation is complete
- Click ‘Animations’ Tab, select transition speed in the ‘Transition to This Slide’ Group
- Transition refers to how one slide changes to the next slide
- Rest mouse on Transition buttons and watch first slide for a preview, Click More button for extra choices
- Click left on Transition button to select
- Click Apply To All button – or select different Transitions for each slide
- Click ‘Custom Animation’ button on left of Animations Tab (Animate button may also be used – but offers fewer choices)
- Custom Animation refers to how titles, bulleted items, pictures, movies, etc. appear and disappear on screen
- Select slide you want to work with on left of screen, then click ‘content’ you want to animate in middle of screen
- Using task pane on right, customize the entrance and exit of titles, bulleted items, pictures, etc
- ** Sometimes Animation Schemes will override transitions
- Make sure you have the first slide selected, click slide show (bottom left) to see your full-screen presentation. Click the mouse to advance. Right click to end.
- To add sound or movies to any slide:
- ‘Insert’ Tab, select slide you want to work with
- Media Clips Group, click Movie or Sound button
- Make your selections
- When prompted, “How do you want the sound to start” – click Automatically
- With sound or movie icon selected, click Sound Tools Tab if needed
- Click Hide during show check box in the Sound Options Group
- Click the down triangle at the right of Play Sound Option box and click Play across slides (this will force the song to play from 1st slide thru the last slide
- Search tip – for any media file type (clip art, sound, etc); leave search for box empty and press enter to look at all
- To Print:
- Office button, Print, Print, Print what, and select:
- handouts, choose 6 or 9 slides per page
- Select Grayscale in Color/grayscale box
